No Fire Found - City fire men said they found no fire yesterday afternoon when they were called to invests gate the odor of smoke in a house in the 400 block of Beatty st. They were also summonded when a large limb fell between two house trailers at 401 East 12th sf. last night but reported no apparent damage. Firemen flushed down four gasoline spills from tanks of automo biles in downtown Medford yesterday. Central Point rural firement were dispatched to put out a sawdust fire on property along Vilas rd. yes terday afternoon. Car Fire-Firemen reported a car fire in the Grocetria parking lot off Grape st. be tween Fifth and Sixth sts. yesterday morning. They said that the car flooded and back fired and the excess gasoline caught fire. They added that there was no damage to the auto owned by Colleen Green inger,'719 West Second st. A small grass fire at 1215 West 10th st. yesterday morning ex tended from a trash blaze which firemen said may have been started by a child., Fires Reported - Patrolmen of the state department of forestry were dispatched to a grass fire along railway tracks near Clayton creek south of Ashland about 10:30 o'clock this morning. Burglary Altempt-A Med ford patrolman early Friday morning discovered an ap parent burglary attempt at Larry's Rich Maid ice cream shop, 415 North Riverside ave. Nothing was reported taken, however, police said Car Club Parade-Members of the Old Timers car club are to meet at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Jacksonville school athletic field to take part in the Gold Rush Jubilee parade Participants are to wear Cen tennial attire. Bus Service For Gold Rush Jubilee Special bus service from Medford to Jacksonville for the Gold Rush Jubilee Satur day and Sunday was an nounced today by Ike Dun- ford, general chairman of the event for the Jacksonville Lions club. Nine schedules will be run to permit attendance at the colorful event. Larry Pilcher, manager of Evergreen Bus lines, reported that buses will leave Medford Saturday morning at 9:30, 10, 11, 12 noon, and 3:30, 4:30, and 7:30 p.m. Buses will leave Medford Sunday at 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. From Jacksonville, buses will leave at the museum Sat urday morning at 9:45, 10:15, 11:15, and 12:15, 3:45, 4:45, and 9 p.m. They will leave Jackson ville Sunday at 12:45 and 5 p.m. Buses will leave Medford from the Trailways depot, traveling to the U.S. National bank at Main st. and Central ave., and continuing out West Main st. to Jacksonville. Check Room Free Large Parking Area Sponsored by VFW Burglary Attempt Reported to Police An apparent recent bur glary at Pacific Fruit and Pro duce company, 607 South Cen tral ave., was reported Thurs day to Medford police A small hole had been punched in a glass window, permitting whomever was re sponsible access to the win dow latch, according to the report. Police said nothing was reported missing from the interior and no attempt had been made to open the safe, however. Police said that John Chris topher Henderson, 1414 Crown ave., who reported the crime, stated over 200 gallons of gasoline had been taken this month from the company gas pump. He added, accord? ing to the report, that another 100 gallons was missing in June. Dispute of Rights Gets Suggestions Salem - (UPD - A continuing dispute of state versus federal control of water rights brought recommendations from Attorney General Robert Y. Thornton Thursday that "Congress face , up to its re sponsibilities and stop en croachment by federal agenc ies in the field of state water law." Thornton's statement was contained in a letter to Cali fornia Attorney General Stan ley Mosk who had asked Thornton's advice regarding the California-Arizona water problem. Mosk said that in the case of Arizona versus California, now pending before the U. S. Supreme Court, U. S. At torneys are making arguments which, if accepted, would Very largely take control of water rights away from the states. Thornton said he "com pletely disagreed" with the federal position. Man Arrested Here Wanted in California Gary Oren Caldwell, 20, of Portland, arrested here early this morning with another man on vagrancy charges, is wanted in California for auto theft, Medford police report ed. Police said Caldwell ad mitted in a signed statement he had taken a car Thursday evening from Williams Mo tors, Red Bluff, Calif. He is wanted by Red Bluff police on a felony warrant, charging auto theft with $1,000 bail, according to the report. Caldwell was arrested here in possession of the car, police said. The other man, Albert Roy Mottram, 24, of Portland, was picked up by Caldwell near Redding, Calif., and was not involved m the theft, police said. He received a $25 sus pended sentence on the vag rancy charge in municipal court today. Cullen ranch, 1098 Ross lane, yester day morning originated from a grass fire which was started from sparks from a tractor, firemen said today. Edmund G. Brown of Califor nia sounds like he might be itching to make a serious try for the 1960 Democratic presi dential nomination. But for the record, he re peated to a news conference previous assertions that he probably would be only a favorite son candidate. Brown stated flatly that he would not accept the party's vice presidential nomination at next year's convention, which will be held in Los Angeles.
