Newspaper Page TextV Apostolic Faith Minister Returns From Campmeeting The Rev. Loyce C. Carver. pastor of the Apostolic Faith church. Third st. and Central ave., has returned with his family from the annual camp- meeting - convention which was held June 28 through July 19 at the headquarters of the Apostolic Faith in Port land. congregations at the en campment were the greatest in the 52-year history of the meetings. Several persons at tended from other countries. Among those attending was A. W. Samuel from Rasipur- am, South India. Samuel sup ervises a mission school and orphanage. He plans to be in Medford Tuesday, July 28, on his way to visit other Apos tolic Faith churches before he returns to India in September. Concert The midsummer concert held at the camp on Monday, July 6, in the large taber- Assembly of God Camp in Operation The Assembly of God youth camp located 10 miles south east of Butte Falls officially opened July 19 for young people m the 13 to 25 age ' group according to the Rev, R. E. Cull, camp supervisor . and pastor of First Assembly . in Medford. This age group will remain at the camp until July 25. More than 100 in youth groups from Klamath, Jackson and Josephine counties are registered at the camp. Ap proximately 20 adults are as sisting in the camp operation. ' Camp evangelist is the Rev, Bert Albritten, Hermiston. , The Rev. Leroy Nidever, Kir by, is in charge of camp edu cation assisted by the Rev. Silas Jones, Klamath Falls, and the Rev. Robert Cornwall, Ashland. Starting July 26 the camp will begin registering children In the age group 9 through 12 years and the camp will con clude for this group on Aug. 1. Camp evangelist for the child ren will be the Rev. Jimmy Mayo of Atlanta, Ga. Educa tional chairman is the Rev. Lawrence Krause, pastor of Bethel Assembly, Medford, who will be assisted by Mrs. William Rentz Chiloquin, handcraft, and Mrs. Gertrude Boyles, Myrtle Creek, recre ation. Mr. Cull said that the camp is an annual event for the youth of Assembly of God churches in southern Oregon. The camp is located at a site previously used by CCC per sonnel prior to World War n and has-been extensively re modeled and rebuilt to serve the needs of the young people registering each year. Congregationalism Tell Sunday Events Sunday at the Congregation al church the Rev. Thomas McCamant will give the last in a series of sermons on "Rhythms of Life". The topic will be "Silence and the Word". On the first three Sundays of August when the pastor is on vacation the pulpit will! be supplied by the Rev. Dr. Charles Copenhaver, of the O n e o n t a Congregational church, South Pasadena, Calif. Church services are at 10 a jn. Sunday school for kinder garten and primary age chil dren is at the same hour. Dur ing the summer, junior age children are "attending the church services.. Nursery care is provided for children under kindergarten age. Sunday at 1 pan. the annual church picnic will be held at TouVell park. Paul Norris is the picnic chairman. High School Group Leaves for Camp Central Point - The high school group of Church of Christ, Central Point, will leave for camp at Dead In dian Soda Spring Monday at 9 ajn. The camp, which con continues through Aug. 1, costs $13. Sunday at 10:45 ajn. Mr. Jean M. Shelley, minister, will speak on-"Daring to At tempt the Impossible." At 7-30 p.m. he will speak on "Our Most Difficult Task." MUSIC INSTITUTE The Salvation Army will conduct its annual Music In stitute at Camp Tresle Glen in Barton, Ore. Aug. 7 through 17. He is now a music education major at Lewis and Clark college, Portland. Caralyn Breazeale and Linda Carver, Medford High school students, and Paul Roby, recent graduate, played with the 60-piece orchestra at the camp. Sharon.- Hend- rickson and Janice Robinson, students, and Raymond Neff, recent graduate, sang with the 100 - voice young people's chorus; Judy Carver, accom panied. Former Pastor Local members attending the three-weeks encampment heard the Rev. Clarence W, Frost, who for many years was pastor of the Medford church before he left for evangelistic work in the east. His subject was "The Prom ises of God The themes of the teachings Mr. Carver gave at the camp meeting were "Sanctifica- tion;" and "Pure Religion Mr. Carver's assistant minis ter, the Rev. Clifford Friesen, helped in the evangelistic services at the camp, The regular schedule of meetings at the local church will be resumed Sunday. Mr. Carver's radio broadcast on KMED will be heard at 9:05 ajn. Morning worship will be at 11 ajn., young people's meeting at 3 pjn., and evan gelistic service will open at 7:50 p.m. with a musical pre lude directed by William E. Walden. Week-night services will be held at 8 pan. on Tuesdays and Fridays. The auditorium is air-conditioned and there is a supervised nursery for small children. Young Evangelist To Speak at Revival The Larimore Evangelist party will conduct a two weeks' old fashioned revival in a tent at the intersection of McAndrews and Sage rds. The revival will begin Sun day at 2:30 p.m. with nightly services scheduled at 7:30 p.m. ' ;' Speaker for the revival will be Larry Hal Larimore, four year old son of the Rev. and Mrs. Larry Larimore, Glendale, Calif. Young Larry will speak Tuesday, Friday and Sunday evenings and Sunday afternoons during the revival. The interdenominational event will continue through Sunday, Aug. 9. The Satur day service will include a mu sic program. The boy evangelist has been preaching since Febru ary, 1959, and gives 20 min ute sermons on Bible stories. His favorite characters are John the Baptist and David and Daniel, he said J Accompanying the Lari- mores here is David Masui, Japanese student who was sponsored in the United States by the Larimores. Wil liam Mincey will be guest speakers at the Bethel As sembly of God at the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Mincey went to Tokyo, Japan, in 1952 to open a Christian Servicemen's Home for U.S. and United Nations Forces personnel Servicemen visiting the home were offered meals, accommo dations for sleeping and facili ties for recreation free of charge. Six Years in Japan Mr. and Mrs. Mincey are themselves the parents o f three sons. During the six years that they operated the Christian Servicemen's Home in Tokyo, their oldest son was an airman overseas The Minceys are presently under appointment by the As semblies of God to go to Korea to open the same type of home for servicemen. The Bethel Assembly of God has helped support the home in Tokyo, Japan, and will now direct its support to such a home in Korea. The church is located at 1225 East McAndrews rd..The public is invited, Protestant Pavilion' To be Used as Center Plans are underway throughout the world to help establish a permanent Chris tian Fellowship center in Bel gium. The building for this center will be the Protestant pavilion that was built for the Brussels World's Fair. Now that the fair is over the building must be moved to a permanent location. It is the hope of the .small Bel gian Protestant Federation that it can now function as an International Christian Fel lowship Center for visitors to Europe. The International Christian Committee in the United States has set a goal of $90,- 000 to help support the plan. The Center, once established, will serve as a world-wide conference, training and con sultative center for mission aries and as an accessible fo cal point for youth and adults from all over the world. G. Robert Jacks, assistant pas tor of First Presbyterian church, will preach the ser mon, "Will You, Really?" at both the 9:30 and 11 a.m services Sunday. "John Calvin's Birthday Party" will be cele- First Methodists To Hear Guest The Rev. Charles Anderson will be the' guest speaker at First Methodist ' church Sun day. ' His sermon title will be, If Sheep Could Talk." Mr, Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Anderson, 218 Winema Way, has attended Southern Oregon college and Willam ette university. While at Wil lamette he served as student minister at Marquam Metho dist church for two terms. After graduating from Wil lamette in 1956, he entered Union Theological Seminary, New York City. He was grad uated from Union this year and was ordained a deacon of the Methodist church June 12, at the Illintis Conference, Jacksonville, Illinois. He plans to enter Columbia university in the fall to work towards his doctorate of philosophy degree. The anthem for the 9 a.m. worship service will be "The King of Love My Shepherd Is," with Sharon Smith as soloist. The anthem for the 11 a.m. worship service will be a duet sung by Dr. and Mrs. Milton Snow entitled, "O Lord Most Merciful." Walter C. Morris, summer assistant pastor at First Church of the Nazarene, will fill the pulpit in the ab sence of the Rev. R. W. Hum, Sunday, for both morning and evening worship services. The sermon subject for the morn ing worship service, which is broadcast over station KDOV, will be "The Renewing of Our Strength." Mr. Hurn is attending the district camp meeting at Clackamas camp. Jacksonville, will be open 1 until 4 p.m. daily for per son interested in stopping at the church. The lea room is sponsored by the Women's Association for tourists and others who wish to tour the old church building built in 1881. The church is open for viewing from 9 ajn. until 5 pan. daily during the Cen tennial year. The Rev. King K. Jones, pastor, reported that many tourists had stop ped at the building prior lo the present heat wave. Interim Pastor At Eastwood Dr. Alvin C. Porteous, chairman of 'the department of philosophy and professor of philosophy and religion at Linf ield college, McMinnville, has begun his ministry as in terim pastor of the Eastwood Baptist church. His sermon topic at the 11 ajn. service Sunday will be "Dealing with Life's Disappointments". Dr. Porteous wF" serve as pastor of the congregation until a permaner'; pastor is called to replace the Rev. Richard M. Jones, who moved this month to join the staff of the department of evangel ism of the American Baptist convention. Dr. and Mrs. Por teous and their three children will reside at the church par sonage, 1549 Lenora dr. Prior to going to Linfield college two years ago, Dr. Porteous taught at Shurtleff college, Alton, 111. He has also served as pastor in New York City for eight years. Last sum mer he was interim pastor at First Baptist church, Boise, Idaho. He hold degrees from McMaster imiversity, Hamil ton, Ontario, the University of Toronto, and Columbia uni versity. The latter institution awarded him the Ph.D. degree in 1957. Eastwood Baptist church is located at 1390 Ridgeway ave., just north of the Hed- rick Junior High school. A nursery for children will be provided during the morn ing service. Church School is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. Assistant Pastor To Speak Sunday The Rev. Glenn McKerrow, assistant pastor at the First Christian church, will preach at both services Sunday morn ing. : He has chosen for his sermon topic "Christian Work men." At the 8:30 service a junior ' choir made up of fourth, fifth and sixth grade boys and girls will sing the anthem "That Beautiful Name." At the second service the Rev. William C. Piper will sing "Beautiful City." The Chi Rho Fellowship will meet at the church Sun day evening and then go to Lithia park for their meeting.
