Heath to . another job might mean abandonment of a program to eliminate overgrazing on pub lic lands in eastern Oregon Heath, state supervisor here for BLM since 1955, has been named coordinating officer in Salt Lake City for Utah, Ida ho, Arizona and Nevada effec tive Aug. 10. James F. Doyle, BLM area administrator, said the trans fer will lead to "no change in the policy of the "bureau and the department to conserve and improve, the range val ues." J. C. (Jack) Binford, speak ing for the Izaak Walton League, charged Heath's transfer was "an. attempt to remove a conscientious public servant from a policy making position." He said he believed Heath was transferred partly because be had a more "broadminded concept" of range management problems than does the BLM office in Washington, D. 6. Neuberger Suggests Douglas McKay Dam Washington-fUPD-Sen. Rich ard L. Neuberger suggested today that Green Peter dam on the south fork of the San tiam river in Oregon be nam ed Douglas McKay dam in tribute to the former Oregon governor and interior secre tary who died Wednesday. "Douglas McKay was one of the 42 original members of the Willamette Basin Project Committee, which has been instrumental in securing fed eral authorization and con struction of such projects as Cougar, Hills Creek, Detroit and Green Peter dams," Neu berger said, v It He said Green Peter was "not a particularly historic or traditional name and could easily be spared." McKay, ex-Secretary of In terior and former governor of Oregon whose friends said his chief concern had always been for his fellow men,- had specified that his eyes should go to the Good Samaritan hos pital eye bank in Portland. Arrangements for use of his eyes were made, and after his death here Wednesday; the eyes were removed and rush ed to Portland. As soon as they arrived, the corneas were removed and transplanted in two "persons, each of whom had one bad eye. As a result of the transplants, full vision was restored to each of them. - Mrs. Mabel McKay said she thought it would be a "won derful thing" for her husband to donate his eyes." She said the decision was made last January after she and McKay had investigated an eye resto ration bank . in New .York City. ' . . ini ii ( h ,v 1 l ADMITTING at least. 200 burglaries, Gordon E. Atter berry, 24, is returned to Los Angeles from Reno, Nev, where he was captured. Whaler Survives Medical Concoction New Bedford, Mass. -flJPD-Benjamin Boodry, on a four year whaling voyage and free to use his ship's medicine chest, made the following en try in his journal: - "Feb. 22, 1853 - had a very sever attack of cramp. Took opium, laudanum, castor oil, blue pills, Attwood's- Bitters, but to no -eflRt. Could not find relief til 10 o'clock. At 11 had a relapse. Felt very poor ly indeed." J I A bit of research at New Bedford's Whaling Museum revealed that Boodry survived all this treatment and lived to a ripe old age. Sardines Will Be On Military Menus Chicago-(Science Service) - Canned sardines have receiv ed a big okay from the U. S. Army Subsistence Market Center here. From now on they will be included as an optional item on the overall U. S. military master menu beginning in January, 1960. Individual commanding of ficers will have the final say as to whether their Army and Air Force installations use the canned sardines or not. .
