0 Jordan Future Bright following King Triumph Over Penny oyer Br HAL WOOD Portland, Ore. -(UPD- Bright tilings were ahead today for world welterweight champion Don Jordan. The 25-year-old titleholder, who was on the hamburger Oregon's Centennial. circuit a year ago, is in line for some rich purses after giv ing 19-year-old Denny Moyer a lesson in 15 rounds and spoiling at least this part of Champ Says He Regarded Challenger Too Lightly By PETE COLMAN Portland (UPD Welter weight Champion Don Jordan reversed the script Friday night and tossed a challenge at all the challengers for his crown. ' Jordan, confident after de fending his 147-pound title against Denny Moyer, said he "would meet anyone in my division and maybe some other divisions too." "This includes Carmen Ba silio, if he .wants to try and get the welteweight t title back," Jordan said. As for Moyer, the i cham pion said the 19-year-old Ore gonian was "the smartest . young fighter I've ever met." He's especially smart when he's hurt," Jordan said. "I stung him a few times and figured I could put him away whenever I wanted to, but he outsmarted me and got away every time." Jordan moved forward throughout the 15-rounder, but said this was not because Moyer lacked punching power. "He hurt me two or three times," the champion said. "Moyer doesn't hit hard enough to floor a man with one punch, but he can daze a guy." Jordan said he "regarded Moyer too lightly" and was "very surprised" by the chal lenger's quick, accurate jab. Manager Don Nesseth said that the next match for the champ would be against Art (Golden Boy) Aragon in Los Angeles - and that should draw a big house. There wasn't a knockdown in the bout - although each fighter slipped to the floor once. Jordan had Moyer hang ing on desperately several times. "But I couldn't get to him," said Don. "He's one of the cleverest boxers I ever met. He seemed to know how to take care of himself real well especially when hurt." Moyer had two 'real good rounds the second and fifteenth. Neither salary nor length of contract were disclosed. Castellani thus replaced Johnny Kundla, who last seas on led the Lakers to second place in the western division and an upset playoff win over the first place St. Louis Hawks, then resigned to take over the basketball helm at the University of Minnesota. "It's something like slipping into Milwaukee Braves' man ager Fred Haney's job," Cas tellani said. "You're coming, into a team that went to the finals of the NBA champion ship playoffs." The Lakers eventually lost the finals to the Boston Cel tics, eastern division cham pions. It earlier had been thought that either Laker captain Vern Mikkelsen or former star Jim Pollard would suc ceed Kundla. Castellani, who played only high school basketball, grad uated from Notre Dame in 1950, then went to Notre Dame law school while, serv ing as an assistant Irish coach. In all, Castellani was an assistant Notre Dame coach for six years, then, in 1956, moved onto the head coach job at Seattle, where he built up a 49-9 record and took his club to the NCAA finals in 1958. Then left Seattle over a dispute with the NCAA on recruiting practices. At Seattle, Castellani coach ed Elgin Baylor, Laker sensa tion and NBA rookie of the year last season. In the past year, Castellani said, he has been refereeing and working on "a novel-like book about basketball." BOGART SUCCUMBS East Hanover, Mass.
