t Oregon Protected It the Governor Becomes Disabled Salem - (CPD - There is no chance that Oregon could have the same situation as Louisiana whose governor, Earl Long, was flown to a psychiatric clinic in Galves ton, Tex., for treatment. The 1959 Legislature pass ed a bill suggested by Gov. Mark Hatfield that calls for a committee to determine in secret whether the governor is physically or mentally un able to perform duties of his office. The committee would be composed of the chief jus tice of the State Supreme Court, the superintendent of the state mental hospital in Salem and the dean of the University of Oregon medical school. Their vote must be unan imous. Many states are faced with "fie problem of moving their Jkvernor to another state so that the first in line of suc cession may legally take over. This is because they have laws requiring the governor to be out of the state before his second in command can assume office. During debate on the Ore gon bill which corrects this situation, the Governor's staff testified that if Hatfield be came incapacitated he would have to be (fmoved to a Vancouver, Wash., hospital before Senate President Wal ter Pearson could legally take over the reins of state govern ment. Hatfield suggested cor rective legislation in his inaug ural address. Couri Records DISTRICT COURT RalDh F- Chammnn. nverlnari $113. Clarence L. Pepper, failure to signal, $10. Alfred W.
