W Washington- (UPD -The Fed eral Bureau of Investigation yesterday placed Richard Al lent Hunt, sought for kidnap ing an Oregon police officer and wounding another, on its list of "10 most wanted men." The FBI said it wanted Hunt for the interstate trans portation of a stolen car and for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. He also is wanted in several western states for burglary, forged checks, kid naping and assault with a dan gerous weapon. Hunt allegedly kidnaped Police Chief E. G. McPhee of Harrisburg, Ore., last March 24 and drove him at gunpoint to Brownsville be fore releasing him. The same day he allegedly shot and critically wounded Browns ville Police Chief Robert Kern. now who tried to arrest him for the kidnaping of McPhee. Hunt escaped into the rug ged countryside. He was known to be in the vicinity of Eugene until March 27 when he was believed to have fled south. He has since been seen in several southwestern and western states, the FBI said. He has been identified as working on a dairy farm near Salt Lake City from April 6 to 10. Believed Armed .He left the farm abruptly and a sum of money, a camera and some clothing disappeared at the same time. "Believed to be armed and known to possess a violent temper, Hunt represents real threat to any person at tempting to apprehend him or oppose his wishes," the FBI said. The Bureau said Hunt was born in Salem Aug. 1, 1932, although there is no formal record of his birth. He enlisted in the army in 1950 and start ed his career m crime two years later. He was arrested in Fresno county, Calif., March 7, 1952, for stealing clothing, luggage, gun and a truck from a California ranch where he was employed. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail and given two years' probation. Three months later he was arrested for robbing the Chil dren's Farm Home in Benton county, Ore., where he once had lived. He was sentenced to six months and served it in the Multnomah county jail. In 1954 he was sentenced to 18 months in the Montana State Prison at Deed Lodge for grand larceny and the army decided then to give him an undesirable discharge. Escape Prison He escaped from Deer Lodge a year later but was caught the next day and given an other 18 months' sentence. He was paroled Jan. 22, 1957, to relative in Riddle, Ore., and held a succession of short jobs. He was known to be in Idaho early last year where he allegedly wrote a number of bad checks, then worked at a ranch at Big Horn, Wyo., where he left after a month in a car owned by the ranch er's daughter. He wrecked the car in Man- zanita. Ore. He next worked on a Valmy, Nev., ranch for several months, again leaving in a car owned by a fellow employee. His last job before the Brownsville shooting was on an Albany, Ore., dairy farm. May Wear Glasses The FBI described him as five feet 11 inches tall, weigh ing 155 to 165 pounds, with blue eyes, reddish brown hair and a fair complexion. He may have long sideburns and be wearing brown and gold rimmed glasses. He has num erous scars on his face and body, and a number of moles. He is an expert dairy work er, an experienced woodsman, Although Japan has less than one-twelfth the area of the United States, her coast line is 17,150 miles long - about twice that of the United is capable of walking long distances and usually is "quiet, shy and intelligent." He likes beer and smokes an occasional cigar. He is said to enjoy highly seasoned foods, base ball, cameras, guns, and cross word puzzles.
