Coquille Fluoridation of Coquille's drinking water has achieved a dramatic decline in tooth decay of children here since it was adopted nearly five years ago, it was indi cated this week at the City Council meeting in a report from the state board of health. Dr. David W. Witter, head of the board's dental division, cited data showing that decay has been reduced by about 20 per cent at the six-year-old level. The optimum effect two thirds less decay takes about 10 years to achieve, he said. But the dentist added that de sired results are becoming ap parent faster than expected, often after two years of fluor idation. The dentist's report was based on a survey of Coquille elementary children made in January. of the Rev. and Mrs. Gene Denning, will marry Miss Marilyn Walker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Walker, of Long Beach, Calif., on June 20. Hoffa's threat of a nationwide strike "is one of the most arrogant and brazen statements I've ever heard." Mitchell commented at a press conference on Hoffa's threat to combat a union anti trust proposal with the strike. "In effect, Hoffa is threat ening the Congress of the United States - that if Con gress doesn't do what he wants he will call a nation wide strike," Mitchell said. "I think George Meany's approach is the correct one," Mitchell said. "Mr. Meany says that if Congress passes legislation which the AFL CIO does not agree with, then the AFL-CIO will try through legal means to correct the legislation. Hoffa's method is ( the method of a revolutionary." drinking supply - Coos Bay, North Bend, Charleston, Em pire, and Coquille.) Dr. Witter made these state ments: - C6mpared to children in fluoride-deficient areas, Co quille's children have less tooth decay, have more of their total dental problems i cared for. An average of three teeth have been saved so far at the 16-year-old level. - By the time six-year-old-ers are 16, they will show about a 50 per cent decline in decayed, missing, and filled teeth. - Fluoridation apparently helps adults, too. , No harmful effects have been observed from proper fluoridation. A Coquille dentist in the audience said he has observed a marked decline in tooth de cay since introduction of fluor ides in Coquille.
