Citizens Asked to Examine Directives Salem A deceptive proce dure being used in Oregon to trace credit defaulters has been denounced by Cecelia P. Galey, chairman of the State Unemployment Compensation commission. K Using a punch-card form re sembling an official unem ployment compensation in quiry, a few collection firms are deceiving people into re porting their present occupa tions and employers' ad dresses, she said. The catch to it is that the form has nothing to do with unemployment compensation or any other of ficial business. It is just one of many "gimmicks" sold by an eastern firm promising miraculous results for collec tion agencies, Mrs. Galey noted. ' Mrs. Galey explained that a collector sends the form to a debtor's last known address. The post office is obligated to forward the mail. When an in dividual receives such official looking material, he can usu ally be depended on to com plete and return it without delay, especially since there is implication that failure to do so violates the law. He said that unlike most 'student organizations, the FFA is governed by the members, rather than the ad visors. The Crater chapter has a budget of over $2,500, owns a tractor and five implements for a combined investment of over four thousand dollars. The executive council plans the various fund-raising pro grams which the members then carry through. In addi tion to this the council also is responsible for planning a banquet for nearly 500 guests, operating the tractor, entering 14 contests, assisting other lo cal organizations and assist ing several city activities such as ' the new Farm Festival Days which will be held at Crater High school May 22 and 23. This program will include a buffalo barbecue, dances, Friday and Saturday nights, a queen selection and the fea turing of Tex Ritter in person at the affair. The festival is sponsored by the Central Point Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Crater FFA. Leroy Chastain, a soph omore, was appointed tractor foreman for the coming year. Chastain has managed the FFA dispensing machines for one year. The tractor foreman not only is responsible for the maintenance of the tractor, but also assists the treasurer in keeping an accurate ac count of the tractor payments, The position of tractor fore man is the largest manual re sponsibility in the FFA chap ter. Ron Ross, also a sophomore, has been appointed chain ani mal chairman for 1960. Ross has been the chairman of the FFA-sponsored barn dance and has served on several committees during the past year at Crater. There are sev en chain animals in the chap ter. All of these animals are in the charge of the chair man. Denning remarked that the Crater chapter is the second largest FFA chapter in the State of Oregon and this year the chapter won the state par liamentary contest and has won the state public speaking championship two years. Reynolds & Company says full year earnings of Wheel- Loca Man Arraigned In District Court Darrell Donald Davis, 24, of 1129 West Ninth st., Medford, was arraigned in district court yesterday on charges of con tributing to the delinquency of a minor. Davis is charged with at tempting to rape a 14-year-old girl Tuesday night. The girl's family reported the incident and later located the youth for the state police. Davis admitted the incident to state police in a signed statement.
