Louise is crazy to want to visit our father. Louis p. I've always felt e were a bit hard on him. Grace T. My brother-in-law has asked me to help him out ith a very serious problem oncerning my sister. Louise and Jim have been married six years and have three yuongsters. Two years ago Jim got an excellent job and they managed to save up enough for the down payment on a home. But now Louise wants to take a big hunk of that savings and pay a visit to our father who lives nearly 3,000 miles away. Of course, she'd take the kids with her. This is a crazy thing to do because we haven't seen our father in ten years. After Mom died, he left us in our aunt's care and went off gal avanting. Finally he married and settled as far from us as he could get. He used to write occasionally, but we never answered. He never sent enough for our support, so why should Louise put him above her own family? . Louisa R. I just can't ex plain it, but I do want so much to see my father again. And I want him to see his grandchildren. He is past 70 and in poor health so I don't know how long we'll have this chance. Grace thought I was crazy when I answered Dad's Christ mas card this year, but I'm glad I did. I think it shows he really always loved us and doesn't forget us. I just know he wants to see me and his grandchildren. Somehow, I've always felt we were a bit hard on Dad. He probably didn't want to leave us but was all mixed up after Mom's death. I want him to know that I, at least, have no more hard feelings. On the other hand, I do feel bad about Jim and the money. He has worked so hard for it and looked forward so much to our getting settled in our own home. This "notion of mine has been quite a blow. . Tha Council It is hard to argue with feelings. If they are strong enough, sacrifices must sometimes be made to !..'U ii ,...T0i i .M n jir . . ... . . r jrj "Make The Check Quf To The Dog Food Company" Admittedly few dogs create financial emergencies like ihisl However, countless other occasions do arise that call for cash in a hurry. , When this is your situation, see us . . . for cash on a prompt and convenient loan ... on terms that you can handle. In many ways, Louise makes good sense. Probably her judgment on her father was overharsh at one time and now that she realizes he is aged and ill, she is over whelmed by a sense of guilt and wants to make amends. Understandably, she also wants her only living parent to share in the joy of her children. However, Louise should consider whether she might not be able to satisfy herself without imposing a heavy sac rifice on her family and deal ing "a blow" to her husband. An exchange of letters and pictures may go a longer way than Louise now believes. She should open her heart and tell her father in writing the things she may never be able to say if she sees him face-to-face. She should try to get her father to do the same. These communications should be supplemented by long dis tance telephone calls. Louise may then find that her need for more closeness to her father is. fairly well satisfied. Louise should bear in mind that face-to-face meetings are often disappointing. Her fath er may not be all that she now wants to believe he is, and the confrontation could leave a bitter .taste. It would be sad to make a big sacrifice for that. (Copyright 1959, General Features Corp.) One Farmer, 20 Eaters Orono, Mft (UPD The ave rage farmer in the 1 United States produces enough food each year to feed 20 people, according to George E.
