Faster was recently elected president of the Future Farmers of America chapter at Crater High school. Others elected for the 1959 60 term were Don Denning, vice president; Don Ryan, secretary; P. T. Melsted, treasurer; Nate Banry, re porter; Larry Ryerson, sen tinel; and Jim Frink, assistant treasurer. Officers reported that the FFA offers more leadership experience than any other high school organization. The Crater chapter has a budget of over $2,500 and owns a tractor and five implements, pop and apple dispensing ma chines, and a 15-acre chapter farm. It is the second largest chapter in the state. Members won the state parliamentary contest this year and received a third place award in nation al competition for chapter activities. The organization will hold its annual banquet April 30 with nearly 500 people invit ed. National president, Adin Hester, State President Jim Ross and Past State President Ed Manary will speak. Numbers Racket in Pentagon Reported Washington-(UPD-More than cold war planning has been in progress at the nation's de fense headquarters. Federal agents Thursday arrested two men in the Pen tagon and charged them with the possession of gambling slips as the first step in a drive to stamp out a numbers operation running to "several thousand dollars a day" Distributors Group Inc. re ports holdings of "defensive" issues such as utility, bank and insurance company stocks were reduced from 41 to 4 per cent cf the fund's assets in the past 12 months while more cyclical issues such as those of aviation, building, chemical and drugs, electron ics, machinery, mining, 'petro leum and rails were increased from 33 to 78 per cent. Civil Service Tells Of New Examinations New examinations for tele typist and operators of miscel laneous office machines have been announced by the U.S. Civil Service commission. The tests are for filling positions in various federal agencies in Washington, D.C. and vicinity and in overseas areas. Applications and further in formation are available from L. B.
