UNWANTED EXEMPTION Anti-Bounty Bill Passed by House Salem 03PB The House has passed and sent to the Senate a bill to do away with state bounties for killing of preda tory animals. The department of agricul ture, which asked for the bill, said professional trappers paid by the state can do a more' efficient and economical job. G. McLaren, 1820 Crown ave., by him to the Rogue Valley Council on Aging for use at the Senior Activity Center, more than 500 books are now available at the cen ter, Frank Glonning, chair man of the council, an nounced. ' The books at the center have been donated by inter ested persons and clubs, it was reported, with the library given by McLaren the largest group to be received from one person. The books are available to any adult over 50 years of age who may either read them at the center or take them home. Arranged and Classified Mrs. Harry Fuller, presi dent of the friends to the li brary group and also a mem ber of the executive board, has arranged and classified the books. It was reported that the titles available in clude, adventure, biography, history, religion, pholosophy and humor. The Senior center is open to the public four afternoons each week from noon until 4 pjn. Monday through Thurs day. During these times va rious classes and activities are scheduled. Activities are also held Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Magazines are also avail able for persons who wish to use the library, center offic ials stated, and said that a volunteer, hostess is present during the hours the center is open. Clubs, churches, and other service groups that wish speakers to tell of the work carried on by the Rogue Val ley Council for older people may contact the center, it was reported. Panel Discussion Recently a panel discussion on "Challenge of the Retire ment Age" was presented at a Ashland meeting of the Amer ican Association of University Women. Mrs. Norman Chris- lieb, social studies chairman of the branch was in charge of the program. Panelists were Mrs. Ches ter Guches, who spoke on health; Mrs. C. A. Thatcher, housing; C. L. Williams, em ployment; and Dr. Frank Rob erts, recreation. Mrs. Fred Rankin told of the national trends and acted as moder ator. The public is invited to- at tend any of the general meet ings of the Council on Aging which are held the third Thursday of each month. The meeting this month will be April 16 at 3 p.m. at the Sen ior center. John Gribble, chairman, will report on events for National Senior Citizens Week, May 17 through 24.
