St. Mary's Noses Out Phoenix To take Little Rogue Victory Phoenix-St. Mary's of Med ford, a Class B school tri umphing over four A-2 en trants, nosed out Phoenix by a half-point here Saturday to win the fourth annual Little Rogue relay track and field meet. The Crusaders, who took five firsts, scored 53 points while the defending cham pion Pirates had 52V4 in. a tussle which saw seven rec- had 39 points, Rogue River 33 and Illinois Valley 10 VS. Carl Michael, St. Mary's, established a standard of 142 feet 5 inches in the discus and nabbed the shot put with 46-11. Terry Cooper was vic tor in the javelin for the Med ford club with 17873 Vt. St. Mary's quartets broke records with 11:52.8 in the distance medley and 9:16.4 in the two mile relay. Freshman Vic Everett hit a Texas league single for EP in the second inning and Bud Bever and Dusty Gerbing slapped the other Eagle hits in the third. Only six Jacksonville men got on base, five on errors Wayne Goldschmidt, who slapped the only Jacksonville hit, got as far as third base in the seventh inning. One other Redskin runner reached sec ond Roger Fisher tripled for the Bulldogs and made all four bases on a bad throw. John Butler and Bob Dickenson singled for Talent King whiffed five batters and issued no bases on balls. Eaglt- Records Eagle Point's :45.9 was a new standard in the 440-re-lay and the Eagles also set a new sprint medley time of 1:39.2. Bill Turner won the broad jump for EP with 19 lOVz. The Phoenix shuttle hurdle team set a :36.45 rec ord and Bill Dillree won the high jump for the Pirates at 5-6. Mike Hanby scored the only Illinois Valley first with a record 12-24 in the pole vault. The Phoenix shuttle mark will be a co-record with the :37.3 set by Henley last year. Yesterday Phoenix was not timed in the regular race and was allowed to run again for a try at the standard. Places in the relays count ed more than those in individ ual events yesterday. St. Mary's supported its first with a second, two thirds, a tie for third and a fourth and a fifth. Semi-Pro Clubs Will Practice Medford Bowling lanes baseball team will hold its first practice and tryout ses sion Sunday. The workout will be at 1:30 p.m. at Cheney field in the fairgrounds area at the south edge of Medford. Anyone interested in trying out for the team is invited to turn out, according to Fred Anderson, sponsor and busi ness manager of the team. Anderson said that Arnold Bauman, who has had pro and semi-pro, experience, will be field manager of the club. Manager Bob Smith has an nounced a 1:30 p.m. practice Sunday also for the Camp White team. It will be at the Medford high school with all interested welcomed to try- out. P; Eagle Point Bounces IV In Baseball Eagle Point - Eagle Point high took advantage of Cou-1 ear miscues here Friday to i defeat the Illinois Valley baseball team 15 to 2 in a Rogue league conflict. The outcome gave each school a 1-1 record in the cir-1 cuit. Jim Nease, pitching for EP, held IV to one hit but walked five and hit three batters.1-He . struck out eight. Grant Dick ey's bunt leading off the game was the lone safe blow. The Eagles, themselves got only five hits off the two IV throwers but took advantage of wildness on the part of Dan Slanaker and Johnson and 13 Illinois Valley errors. Five of the Eagle Point i runs were in the opening inn ing on a single by Tom Per due, four bases on balls, two errors and catcher's inter ference. Four tallies got over in the fifth inning without a hit. There were three walks, a hit batter and four errors. Perdue had two hits and Bud Bever tripled for Eagle Point.
