lit 12B MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Oregon, Wednesday, April 8, 1959 Foundation Garments Allied With Curve-Conscious Spring For a curve-c onscious spring, foundation garments form a pretty alliance with fashion, underlining shapely, feminine day and evening clothes. Colors for the new founda tions are lush pastels, along with white and black, and fabrics are sheer, though con trolling. For spring's modifed em pire styles - which are better described as short-w a i s t e d than high-waisted - there are brassieres with gently curving cups, and bands that stretch downward, sometimes passing the waistline. Cropped jackets, shaped close to the body, likewise fo cus attention on the busline, Gloves for Spring Said Elegant Gloves have an especially elegant look this spring. Trim ming techniques are many and varied and always subtle. Typical are all-over pin tucks, appliques and discreet bead ing. Embroideries have a. hand made, delicate air. They p pear in both vivid colors and such soft shades as pale green, blue and yellow. Some are empire - inspired designs of fruits or flowers. Eyelets and perforations serve as decorations and also offer coolness. Leather trims are popular, too, and leather is often com bined with fabric. Patterned sheer nyion teamed with French kid looks new, feels light and comfortable, while washable leather and stretch yarns are another favorite combination. Feather - weight washable kid, pique, printed cotton and stretch gloves are all in fash ion's favor. High-count cotton gloves are closely knit, very soft to the touch and, in some cases, give the appearance of doeskin. Easy-care virtues are offered by pastel striped nylon sheers and nylons trimmed with scal lops. Fxench knots and fagot ing. Novelty jerseys and suedes with band and fold trimming are other good glove choices. and offer another argument for the youthfully uplifting brassiere which underplays rather than accentuates the bosom. For the slim, easy-fitting sheath, there are new corse lets, most of them all-elastic and virtually weightless. Down -stretch paneling front and back flattens where most figures need flattening. In both brassieres and corse lets, particular attention is paid to styles for the 'A-cup and the D-cup' figure. And the young teen-ager will find greater variety, this season in all types of foundations. For the dress with naturally placed waistline and pleated or swirling skirt, the cinch is making a comeback. Not so "belittling" as the cinch of the - multi-petticoat era, but nevertheless intent upon tapering, are these types of waist control: the hip- length brassiere, usually called a bralette; the high-rise girdle or pahty girdle, and the narrow band with waist-whittling its sole purpose. . Hip Control Hip control is concentrated in the side panels of girdles ! w ::i ' 'V, t - r. WORSTED SUIT - The Italian Continental is exemplified here in an all-wool tropical worsted suit in a black and navy stripe. Note two-button, deep cutaway front, narrow lapel. Late-day and evening fash ions have prompted a wonder ful collection of strapless and low - cut foundations. Both brassieres and corselets plunge front and back to ac comodate either the short strapless dress with billowing skirt or the long, wand-like sheath with deep decolletage thinly veiled by chiffon. Jewelry Designed for Complementing Fashion Spring is the season of new ness and the jewelry de signed to complsment spring fashions takes its inspiration straight from this mood of the new and the fresh, reports the Fashion Coordination Institute. Important among the newH jewelry is color. With many trends is the shorter length of necklaces. Short bibs, shorter chokers and the shortest neck lace of all, the dog collar, star for spring. Short sleeves for suits and dresses spotlight bracelets, with a deep - cuff look and jeweled and textured surfaces. Shorter Necklaces Earrings assume new forms and designs to complement the shorter necklaces. Button earrings, with a dimensional, "crusted" and jeweled look, pair with short bibs or chok ers, wniie otner earrings sweep up the outline of the ear, to provide just the right accent for the dog collar. - Pins, pins and more pins of every size, shape and descrip tion fill a big fashion role. But perhaps' the most spring-like touch of all in new pale pastels and many neu trals seen in dresses, suits and coats, colored jewelry has special importance in the fashion scheme of things, the Institute reports. ' A few corks fitted on the painter of a tender or any other line used for towing, will prevent 4he tow line from ever fouling the prop of the tow boat. Coal is the largest single source of energy and heat. Dresses Take High Road fo Fashion; Above Waistline Dresses are taking the high road to fashion this spring, "high" meaning anything that is, or looks as if it is, above the normal waistline. While there aren't too many with true empire lines, a wide variety of '"lifted looks" and "short-waisted" looks may be chosen to flatter many differ ent figure types. One of the favored ways to achieve this look is through dress and jacket costumes, composed of dresses with a closer - to - the - body fit and jackets that stop just below the bustline or just above the waistline. ." The trick may also be turn ed by mock bolero effects, contrast bodices, high-placed bows, inset bands, seaming or buttons. Contoured Belts Then there are high-rising contoured belts, sashes, drap ed scarves and draw-strings, all of which contribute to the "lifted look" for dresses. Alternates to the high-rise effect are offered by many dresses with natural waist lines, some with dropped waistlines, and princess styles. Blousons continue as a popu lar favorite, with the Mous ing often starting above the waist. Tunics provide a new and fashionable look for still other dresses. - Wide belts and pretty bo dice treatments give freshness to the many spring '59 vers- Water will condense in a half, or completely empty gas oline tank and raise problems with the performance of an engine. Neckline interest centers around large collars, usually standing away from the neck and often pleated, fluted or folded. Spring - like lingerie touches of white linen, lace or organdy are favored.
