By HUSS GREEN Philadelphia -UPD- Ron Del any, who kicks 'em dead in his come-from-behind finishes bids for his 28th straight in door mile victory in the Phila delphia Inquirer charity games tonight but the Irish wonder is wondering whether something's wrong with his "kick." Delany, a graduate student at Villanova who copped the Hunter Mile at . Boston last Saturday for his 27th straight indoor triumph, had a record within his grasp when he started the final 440 yards but settled for a 4:04.3 vic tory, his third fastest indoor time. He admitted he was "men tally exhausted" spurting ' home after trailing the field led by European 1,500 meter champion Brian Hewson of England by 45 yards. Romping Ron faces three four-minute milers in Hew son, Dan Waern of Sweden and Laszlo Tabon of Hun gary, in addition to Ameri cans Jim Grelle (4:01.7) and Phil Coleman (4:05) in to night's Inquirer Mile but De laney's savvy on the 12-lap track should weigh heavily in his favor. McElroy today studied a request from a Southern congressman for a uniform policy of service academy participation in post season bowl games. Rep. F. Edward Hebert (D.- La.) in a letter to McElroy, urged that no bowl be "dis criminated against" because of local segregation laws. His congressional district includes New Orleans, site of the Sugar Bowl. There was no immediate comment from McElroy's of fice. A spokesman said the secretary "obviously won't want to shoot from the hip," on Hebert's statement. He said study would have to be given to the proposal. Each Determine At present each of the three services acadamies Army, Navy and Air Force -deter mines whether its team shall play in bowl games. As the problem was pre sented by Hebert, McElroy also would ultimately give his views whether teams from the three service academies should play in Southern states with segregation laws prohi biting mixed athletic contests. Hebert said in the letter that it was silly to have "one academy with one policy, an other academy with a "second policy and a third academy with still a third policy." gSATURDAYg g SPECIALS g Reg. n Purpose Crepe Drop Cloth 98c 5 Drawer Unf in. Erskine Signs 12th Contract Los Angeles-flJPD-Carl Ers kine, dean of the Dodgers' pitching staff, has signed for his 12th season with the club, general manager E. J. (Buzzie) Bavasi announced today. Erskine was the 29th Dodger to join the fold andj Bavasi said the veteran hur ler commented he was com pletely satisfied with the terms offered to him. Erskine was reported to have taken a slight cut in pay because of a 4-4 season last year when injuries benched him a good part of the time. The quiet-spokeh Erskine ranks fourth among current ly active National League pitchers in victories,' having won 122 and lost 75. meets pregon State (5-4) on baturday. It does not take .much fig uring to realize that the Bears could come out with only two losses to- date while every other team in the league had dropped at least four contests. This lead would be well nigh insurmountable. Other big battles will find Stanford (5-4) also hosting UCLA and Oregon. Southern California (4-4) is at Idaho (4-5) and Washington State (1-9).
