Newsom, Oregon Bishop for the Church of God of Proph ecy, today appealed for volun teers to search for a missing plane carrying three brothers which vanished last Friday on a. Prineville - to - Salem flight. Jim Miller, ' 24, Ashland, was flying the plane to Salem for the church. His twin brothers, Roy and Coy, 14, Turner, also were aboard. Search has proved unavail ing so far. Bishop Newsom said a search party was to look in the Silver Falls area today. A resident of the area heard a plane pass over on the day It was reported missing. YOUTH HELD Oregon City - (UPD - Duane Marvin Anders, 17, maintain ed today that the fatal shoot ing of his father last Sunday night was an accident. The Estacada high school senior class president was held on a first degree murder charge after Sheriff Joe Shobe said the youth admitted setting fire to the family barn after a bullet from a .22 caliber rifle struck Hector Anders, 56. A grand jury has been call ed to hear the case. : The youth said the .22 rifle accidentally discharged when he fell from a pile of hay bales. He said he then pan icked, i TRIAL HALTED Portland -flJPD- The bribery conspiracy trial Of Joseph P. McLaughlin of Seattle came to an abrupt halt Wednesday when the state's principal witnesses, James B. Elkins and Raymond F. Clark, re fused to testify. Elkins and Clark cited con stitutional reasons, saying it might affect their pending appeals from a federal wire tap conviction. Circuit Judge James R. Bain dismissed charged against McLaughlin, who was indicted during the 1956 vice probe here. SONIC BOOM Oregon City -(UPD- A sonic boom caused by jet-fighters caused a flurry of excitement hore Wednesday night. A public informations offi cer at the Portland air base said 18 Portland-based F-102s were flying above 30,000 feet, as required, when one or more of the planes broke the sound barrier. At that height, the PIO said, the sound could easily be heard but no dam age could result. Salem (UPD - A measure to rlace the Oreaon State Fair under the Department of Agriculture and abolish the State Fair Commission was aired before the Senate State and Federal Affairs Commit tee Wednesday. No action was taken on the measure. Sen. Walter Leth (R-West Salem) said the fair should become a "show window" for the state's economic life. Salem-(UPD-A bill to permit public employees to take part in search and rescue missions for at least five days without loss of pay was passed by the Senate Wednesday and sent to the House. Salem -(UPD-A bill abolish ing the Oregon Tunnel Com mission was passed by the Senate and sent to the gover nor Wednesday. The commis sion, formed in 1931, long has been inactive. Salem-IUPD-The House Wed nesday passed and sent to the Senate a bill to abolish the State Bond Commission. The Commission is compos ed of the governor, the state treasurer and an industrial accident commissioner. The measure would make the state treasurer alone respon sible for most investment of state funds. Salem-OIPD-The House Edu cation Committee voted 5-4 Wednesday to approve a me morial asking Congress to enact legislation calling for federal aid to education. Those voting for it were Tfens. Wickes Shaw. Al Fleg el, John Kerbow, Nancy Kirk patrick and Wayne Turner, Democrats. Opposed were Favette Bristol. Evelyn Nye, Stafford Hansell and Shirley Field, Republicans.
