It has a high neck with stays, fine lace in a small yoke and long skirt with inserts of eyelet embroidery. Sheryl Martin (at left) models a red wool weskit and skirt which she made for a school dress, and Jane Ward modeled a grey empire sheath jumper which she will wear to classes. V " j Linda Monia and David Baker, eighth graders in Central- Point Junior High school, were paired Wednesday afternoon in the boy-girl cooking class. Linda read the recipe for cup cakes while David sifted flour. MyyMTyWy.;., .,,i,.u l , , , Joe McCalvy and Judy Patterson work together in the shop class; here Joe is preparing to put an enameled piece in the tiny kiln for firing. This class is working with copper and enamel powder to turn out co!orful and interesting earrings, medallions, cuff links and other pieces. Ivan Higinbotham and Karen Holley of Central Point teamed together Wednesday in cooking class to make cup cakes. In "trade about" classes, girfs help boys learn to cook, boys help girls learn about files, wrenches and house plans. By Olive Starcher Since Oregon's Centennial celebration is uppermost in the minds of everyone, McLoughlin Junior High school themed a recent homemaking class style show to the "Past and the Present." Girls who have been enrolled in sewing the past semester modeled clothing which they made, and others wore dresses from days gone by or heirloom gowns which ( are treasured possessions. The setting con trasted a stagecoach, which provided transportation one hundred years ago, with a rocket, symbol of today's space age. Today's pictures taken at Central Point Junior High school are indicative of a new trend in teaching procedures. At stated intervals during the school year boys in shop work and girls taking homemaking trade classes. Boys join the girls to learn a little about kitchens, table etiquette and proper manners; girls go to the shop rooms and take lessons in crafts or learn how to put a new washer in a kitchen faucet, aided by boys in the class. 0 44! y V ""R St I'll -; , i 'J if 1 For the McLoughlin show Diane Evernham modeled an evening gown of the 1930's and Lana Merrifield a co balt blue Darlene wool chemise type jumper trimmed with bow in back which she had made in sewing class. tmUie,M.!!J' illjl "IIUaIWlllM.llllliMIWMilWM.II.M llft)JjmilP Ml III . Ill II Ill The dress modeled here by Cheryl Linn was worn by the late Martha A. Barnum for her wedding day April 6, 1862 in Winona, Minn. Of grey alpaca, the dress is worn over a bustle and lined throughout with very fine sateen. The trim is bands of blue alpaca and pure silk; rosettes and buttonholes were hand worked. Marilyn Harwood modeled her balloon party frock of blue-green paisley disciplined cotton, and Julie Latham wore a dark orange, cotton tweed empire type dress trimmed with pal green bow. Julie's headache band and shoes were also pale green.
