With it Wray has Won 19 trophies in IN WEEK END SHOW HERE The 1955 custom built Thunderbird sports car of Stan Jones, Portland, is among those entered in the Autorama this week end at Medford Armory. Salem - (DPD Plans were announced today for Salem to remain in the Northwest league in the . 1959 baseball season. League President Jim Fleishman made the an nouncement after a meeting with members of the Salem Senators Inc. and . Dwight Jordan, Yakima insurance man. who was president of the Yakima team last season. Jordan was given the go ahead to run the team in 1959 and . said the Senators would operate on a profit sharing basis. Plans call for a 20-man board of directors. A field manager and a business manager still are to be named. Fleishman said Salem's de cision left only one team -Wenatchee uncertain about 1959. He said he was "con cerned, but not worried' by the situation. Wenatchee of ficials said they needed more financial help. SOTA members will have TV Blackouts Sought by Bill Washington-(DPD-A biparti san group of congressmen in troduced legislation today to "save baseball's minor leagues" by legalizing a black out of major league game tele casts into minor league cities when their teams are playing at homp. The legislation would achieve this by exempting from the anti-trust laws agree ments protecting teams from major league game telecasts originating within 75 miles of minor league cities on home game days. Otherwise TV i agreements would be subject i to antitrust laws. j It also would leave the ra- ; dio broadcasts of professional baseball, basketball, football and hockey games subject to antitrust laws. Grade Jayyees Open Schedule Hoover, St. Mary's, Wash ington and Jefferson won op ening games yesterday in city grade School basketball loops. Hoover defeated Oak Grove 23 to 16 and St. Mary's i won from West Side 25 to 13 in the American league while Roos evelt beat Washington 22 to 16 and Jefferson downed Jackson 21 to 5 in the Na tional. In another tangle Lincoln of the National whipped Wil son of the American 31 to 8. St. Mary's games do not count toward the title. The action came at a meet of the OSAA board, the governing body of Ore gon prep athletes.1 The board voted to lift the suspension which went into effect Dec. 20. Red Sox owner Tom Yaw key phoned Cronin in Chica go and authorized him to make the announcement. Cro nin has notified Harris at Boston. Harris now is a special as sistant to Cronin. His last team was the Detroit Tigers which he managed in 1955 and 1956. He managed the Red Sox for one season in 1934 and was succeeded by Cronin. Quinn Assumes Job With Phils New York-(DPD-John Quinn did it with Braves and they're all betting today he'll do it again with the Phillies - us ing the identical methods he did in Milwaukee, t - Quinn, who helped lead the Braves to a world champion ship in 1957 and the National League pennant last year, of ficially took over his new job as general manager of the last-place Phils today. ' He has been given "com plete free reign" by owner Bob Carpenter plus a five year contract, which repre sents the first one he actually ever has worked under. Delegates Vote Rodeo Combine Denver (DPD Representa tives of 91 rodeos in the Unit ed States and Canada voted unanimously this week to form the Rodeo foundation for organizing and setting pol icy of the cowboy sport in both countries. It would bring together all three segments of rodeo oper ations for the first time in the sports 75-year history. A 12 man board would have mem bers representing sponsoring committees, the livestock owners and producers and the contestants. The vote was cast during the annual rodeo convention of the Rodeo Cowboys associ ation here. It must be ratified by a mail vote of all 475 rc does approved by the RCA. The balloting probably will be completed within 0 days, of ficials said. The new organization would take over the job of raising funds from rodeos to continue the sports' national programs. Conlin's Spurt Helps Syracuse United Press International Ed Conlin neded just nine minutes Thursday night to give Syracuse its seventh win in eight starts. UCLA is first-ranked in total scoring and rebounding, Southern California in field goal shooting and field goal defense, Oregon State in free throw shooting and Stanford in total defense. UCLA, stepping up its point production which also led the conference last week has scored 320 points in five games through January 10 for an average of 64 per game to 66 for Southern California. Defensively, Stanford has per mitted but 45.8 points per outing to 46.2 for California. Oregon State's leading free throw percentage stands at 70 per cent, the Beavers hav ing made 70 of 100 attempts, while Washington is shooting at 67.5 per cent. Southern California gained its top percentage of 39.5 per cent in field goal shooting by scoring on 88 of 222 attempts from the. floor. California is shooting 37.9 per cent. De fensively Southern . Cal has permitted foes but 83 field goals in 259 shots for 32 per cent, followed by California 32.3 per cent. .
