Auburn and St. Bonny Unbeaten By JOHN GRIFFIN United Press International And then there were two Auburn and St. Bonaventure. Those were the only major unbeaten basketball teams in the nation Friday night, be cause both Villanova and Boston University were knocked outof the charmed circle. St. Joseph's of Philadelphia (9-2) handed local rival Vil lanova its first defeat in nine games, 82-70, as Joe Spratt fired 25 points. At Washington, D. C, George Washington (7-3) dealt Bostpn U. its first loss in seven games, 78-69, as Bill Telasky scored 25. Marquette (12-1) racked up its 10th straight win Friday night, 67-46, over the touring Air Force Academy as new coach Eddie Hickey's speed tactics continued to pay off. The Warriors hit only 30 per centof their shots as big Mike Moran led the way with 18 points but the rebounding told the story Marquette had 40 to the Air Force's 15. Racer To Judge Event Bob Christie, Grants Pass, Indianapolis racer, wil be one of the judges on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 17 and 18, for the Southern Oregon Au torama at Medford Armory. Christie has driven in two of the 500-mile races held on Memorial day at Indianapolis, Ind. Nineteen classifications of cars, custom, speedway, drag sters, pick-ups, antique autos and motorcycles will be on display from 1 to 11 pjn. each day. There will be entertain ment for auto and racing fans. Autorama manager Mike Batinich said that trophies willjbe awarded for the best hot-round, best upholstery job, best engineering, the people's choice, for sweep stakes and for a special clas sification of local cars. Class Slated In Badminton Second session of Badminton instruction gets underway at the Young Men's Christian Association on Tuesday, Jan. 13. from 8:30 to 9:45 p.m. and will continue at that time till the 24th of March. This is a class for beginners and a play period for those who have learned the game. Each Tuesday evening a round robin tournament is set up for those who wish to play. This is separate from the instruction. The class is for men and women, and high school aged boys and girls. Family groups with younger children are en couraged to take part, also. All members .of the YMCA are eligible, and non-members can ' enroll on the limited privilege basis for the course. Punk Biddington was high for the Raiders with 21 and Jim McAbee had 18 and Dave D'Olivo 17 while Gordie Car rigan had 14. The win for the Raiders put them in a tie in the OCC with Portland State who tri umphed over Oregon Tech, 73-49, in Klamath Falls Fri day night. Both coaches cleared the benches after the Raiders had pulled ahead by 15 near the middle of the second half on the quick scoring punch of Decision Won By Armstrong New York - (UPD - It's on to ward the title for unbeaten Gene (Ace) Armstrong and back to the police beat for vanquished Eddie Dixon. Middleweight contender Armstrong, . seeking his 17th straight victory will get another Madison Square Gar den, fight in February, prob ably with SpiOer Webb, for outpointing Dixon, the fight ing cop, in Friday night's dull TV bout. But, before Dixon can re turn to his night foot-patrol beat in Newark, N. J., he must face a police hearing for having fought Friday night for a , total purse of about $5,000. It's against Newark department regulations for a policeman to engage in out side activities' for money. He'll probably be reprimand ed or suspended briefly. Had Dixon, the 4-1 under dog, registered an upset over Armstrong of Elizabeth, N. J., he would have requested a long leave of absence from the police force in order to con centrate on fighting. During this period the Easterners were victims of a five minute scoring drought, SOC held the lead most of the first half but the visiting Mounties closed the gap and pulled ahead by one on two points by Pasco Arritola. Car rigan came back to sink two shots from the gift line in the last four seconds to give the Raiders a 41-40 edge which they never gave up. Lroiivo was the top re- bounder of the evening with 13 of the Raiders' total of 47 while Frank Chase had 10 of the Mounties 36 Shooting percentages showed the Raiders with .369 mark from the field and 19 conversions on 31 free throws. Biddington in scoring 10 field goals attempted 19 for a shooting percentage of .526 while McAbee hit seven of 11 tries from the field for a .627 tally. SOC Jayvees downed Glen dale High school 63-25 in the preliminary game with Byron Kile hitting 13 points for high honors on the Jayvee squad. Kile got eight points in his first three minutes of play in a game that marked his first experience in college basketball.
