By JOHN GRIFFIN
United Press International
And then there were two
Auburn and St. Bonaventure.
Those were the only major
unbeaten basketball teams in
the nation Friday night, be
cause both Villanova and
Boston University were
knocked outof the charmed
circle.
St. Joseph's of Philadelphia
(9-2) handed local rival Vil
lanova its first defeat in nine
games, 82-70, as Joe Spratt
fired 25 points.
At Washington, D. C,
George Washington (7-3) dealt
Bostpn U. its first loss in
seven games, 78-69, as Bill
Telasky scored 25.
Marquette (12-1) racked up
its 10th straight win Friday
night, 67-46, over the touring
Air Force Academy as new
coach Eddie Hickey's speed
tactics continued to pay off.
The Warriors hit only 30 per
centof their shots as big Mike
Moran led the way with 18
points but the rebounding
told the story Marquette had
40 to the Air Force's 15.

Decision Won
By Armstrong
New York - (UPD - It's on to
ward the title for unbeaten
Gene (Ace) Armstrong and
back to the police beat for
vanquished Eddie Dixon.
Middleweight contender
Armstrong, . seeking his 17th
straight victory will get
another Madison Square Gar
den, fight in February, prob
ably with SpiOer Webb, for
outpointing Dixon, the fight
ing cop, in Friday night's dull
TV bout.
But, before Dixon can re
turn to his night foot-patrol
beat in Newark, N. J., he
must face a police hearing for
having fought Friday night
for a , total purse of about
$5,000. It's against Newark
department regulations for a
policeman to engage in out
side activities' for money.
He'll probably be reprimand
ed or suspended briefly.
Had Dixon, the 4-1 under
dog, registered an upset over
Armstrong of Elizabeth, N. J.,
he would have requested a
long leave of absence from the
police force in order to con
centrate on fighting. Instead,
he suffered his fifth defeat
in 21 starts. .
McAbee, D'Olivo and Bidding-
ton. During this period the
Easterners were victims of a
five minute scoring drought,
SOC held the lead most of
the first half but the visiting
Mounties closed the gap and
pulled ahead by one on two
points by Pasco Arritola. Car
rigan came back to sink two
shots from the gift line in the
last four seconds to give the
Raiders a 41-40 edge which
they never gave up.
Lroiivo was the top re-
bounder of the evening with
13 of the Raiders' total of 47
while Frank Chase had 10 of
the Mounties 36
Shooting percentages
showed the Raiders with
.369 mark from the field and
19 conversions on 31 free
throws. EOC hit 23 of 65
field goals for a .354 mark in
addition to hitting 20 of 26
free throws.
Biddington in scoring 10
field goals attempted 19 for
a shooting percentage of .526
while McAbee hit seven of 11
tries from the field for a .627
tally.
SOC Jayvees downed Glen
dale High school 63-25 in the
preliminary game with Byron
Kile hitting 13 points for high
honors on the Jayvee squad.
Kile got eight points in his
first three minutes of play in
a game that marked his first
experience in college basketball.
