Kenneth LeRoi Bigham (Landis photo) Holiday Season to Close With Traditional Parties Numerous parties New Year's eve and day will bring the holiday season to a close in Medford. Thursday member of. the Colony club wi.'l hold the tra ditional New Yeir s day open house at the clubhouse on Ge neva street. Mrs. C. Rease Bralev social chairman for the club this year, is in charge of arrangements. Hours are from 5 to 7 o'clock. Another traditional event is the annual New Year's eve party at Rogue Valley Coun try club. Co-chairmen for the event are Dr. and Mrs. Bruce Stanley and Mr. and Mrs. James Sheldon. The chairmen and club management ask members to confirm their res ervations no later than Tues day, December 30, at noon. It is stated that the event will be formal. Serving of cocktails and dancing will begin at 9 o'clock and a buffet dinner will be served from 9 p.m. un til 1 ajn. The club's two or chestras will play for dancing, and appropriate favors will be provided. Last evening the annual party for high school seniors and college students was held at the club. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Deakins, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Hillyer and Mr. and Couple Honored In Shady Cove On Anniversary Shady Cove A surprise party given December 20 celebrated the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Ray ' Briggs. The Briggs daughter, Phyllis, who is home from the University of Oregon for the holidays, was hostess for the event, held in the Briggs home in Shady Cove. A silvered Ming tree deco rated with silver dollars was presented to the honored cou ple and an anniversary cake, made by Mrs. Earl Shepherd, was served. Mrs. Scott Brill poured. The guest book used for the occasion was a present from Miss Briggs. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Ray Chubb and Miss Suzi Chubb; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Shepherd, Mr. and Mrs. James Hopkins, Mr. and Mrs. Arch Levulett, Mr. and Mrs. Athel Dudley, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Brill, Mr. and Mrs. A. Myklebye, Mr. and Mrs. James Sawyers, Miss Sandra Sawyers, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dolenshek and Miss Sheila Dolenshek, Mr. and Mrsf Ran ald Axtell, Mrs. Travis Little field, William Littlefield and Ralph Reinning. f Seattle Couple ' Visitors in City In Medford for Christmas were Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Bend er Jr., and small son, John Randolph, Seattle, Wash. The Benders were guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Bender, Westerlund drive, and also visited Mrs. Bender's par ents. Dr. and Mrs. Dwight Findley, Old Stage road. The Seattle couple planned to, leave today for El Rancho Santa Fe for a winter vaca tion. Mr. Bender Jr., is vice president of the advertising firm of Bottsford, Constantine and Gardner. Also home for the holidays Is the Benders' daughter, Miss Gail Bend, sophomore at the University of Washington. ' Mrs. Paul Bauer were the chaperone committee. T h e Bauer's son, Michael, attends Southern Oregon college, the Hillyer's daughter, Carolyn, is a student at Oregon State college and the Deakins' son, Warren, is also a student at OSC. He is in San Francisco to attend the annual East-West game. Another traditional party in Medford is the New Year's eve dance for Medford Elks and their guests at the temple. The event is scheduled for 9:30 o'clock Wednesday and the Mellow Notes will play for dancing. Party favors will be distributed, and supper will be served at midnight. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Riggs are party chairmen. New Year's day the annual Tom and Jerry party for members and their wives will be held. The hours are from 3 to 5 o'clock. Chairman Announced Mrs. C. H. Buffington, Hill- crest-Phoenix road, has ac cepted an appointment as Jackson county chairman for the 1959 Heart Fund cam paign according to Edward Mays, Portland, state chair man. The campaign will be held during February, and will end February 22 with a door-to-door campaign on Heart Sunday. Mrs. Buffington and other county chairmen from throughout the state will at tend a pre-campaign meeting January 17 at the University of Oregon Medical school where they will learn first hand how Heart Fund money is spent for research and edu cation. "We are gratified that Mrs. Buffington has agreed to di rect the Heart Fund campaign in Jackson county," Mr. Mays said in announcing her ap pointment. Mrs. Buffington is a past president of Medford Junior Service league". . Chapmans Leave For California Mr. and Mrs. Vern Chap man left Thursday for San Diego, Calif., and Phoenix, Ariz. The Chapmans plan to meet their youngest son, Sec ond Lt. Norman Chapman and Mrs. Chapman, . at the home of their oldest son, Staff Sgt. Wayne L. Chapman and family in Solana, Beach. Lt. Chapman is en route to Augusta, Ga., where he will attend officers' training school. Sgt. Chapman is sta tioned at Camp Mathews with the United States Marine corps. From San Diego the Med ford couple will continue to Phoenix for a vacation before returning home. Hermans Spend Week End in City Mr. and Mrs. Amil Herman. Orland, Calif., are week end visitors in Medford visiting Mrs. Herman's mother, Mrs. Geneva Ruth, 317 South Orange street. The Hermans, who drove north Friday, will return to their home tomorrow. Mrs. Herman is the former Doris Ruth. Bigham-Conrow Wedding Held in Medford Church Central Point - Miss Phyl lis Ann Conrow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Raymond Conrow, Manhattan, Kan., be came the bride of Kenneth LeRoi Bigham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl LeRoi Bigham, Route 2, box 565, Central Point, in a double-ring cere mony held December 13 at the Church of Christ, West Main street, Medford. H. O. Martin officiated at the eight o'clock evening cere mony, attended by 150 rela tives and friends. White tap ers, cedar boughs, red poin settias, holly and silvered ev ergreen trees decorated the church for the ceremony. Red floodlights lighted the trees. A group of students of Co lumbia Christian college of Portland, where the bride groom attended college, sang. They . were Robert Farmer, Virgil Jackson, Judy Burkett, Linda Burkett, and Jacky Bunn, who was also soloist. The bride wore a white Chantilly lace over taffeta gown in ballerina length fash ioned with a scoop neckline which formed a vee in back Her fingertip length veil was held by a crown of seed pearls and rhinestone and she car ried white carnations tied with red and white ribbons on a white Bible. Her pearl neck lace was a gift of the bride groom. Miss Iris Conrow, Manhat tan, was honor attendant for her sister! She wore a mint green chiffon ballerina length dress with matching net head dress. She carried a bouquet of red carnations. Miss Dicie Farmer, Portland, was brides maid. She wore a pale blue nylon lace frock with white lace overskirt and carried a bouquet of red carnations. Clifford Bigham served as best man for his brother while Lyle Bigham, another brother, and Ernest and Wayne Smith, cousins, seated the guests. Ernest and Wayne Smith also lighted the candles. Michael Bigham, Medford, another cousin of the bridegroom, was ring bearer. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Conrow, who came from Kansas for the event, chose a white chemise dress with brown and white accessories. Mrs. Bigham wre an aqua marine blue frock with black accessories. Their corsages were of white gardenias. Following the wedding a re ception was held in the fel lowship hall of the church. Mrs. Everett Brown cut the tiered wedding cake baked and decorated by Mrs. Don Way. Mrs. Don Anderson as sisted with the serving and Mrs. George Reed and Miss Grace Bigham pesided at the punch bowls. Miss Glenna Mae Brown was in charge of the guest book and Mrs. James Gann, Mrs. Roy Patton and Miss Patty Bigham were at the gift table. The couple left for Portland where they are living at 11549 Annual Dinner Given by Group Among the recent Christ mas parties, was an annual dinner given by a group of Medford women at Rogue Val ley Country club last Sunday, The seven women are mem bers of an informal club form ed 19 years ago by a group of widows. The women have din ner together each Sunday eve ning, and for the past several years have given the Christ mas dinner, with their sons and daughters as guests. About 20 attended this year s party. Christmas mu sic was played, and gifts ex changed. Members of the club are Mrs. Grace C. Collins, Mrs. Mamie E. Sleeter, Mrs. Chaun cey M. Brewer, Mrs. J. A. Cunningham, Mrs. Lewis Ul rica, Mrs. F. H. Reum and Mrs. William A. Thompson. Jossys Entertain Holiday Guests Eagle Point-Christmas Day guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earle Jossy, Eagle Point, included Mr. and Mrs. James Cornutt and children, Gold Hill; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bar ton and children, Mentone, Calif.; and Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Bruner, Eagle Point. Mrs. Jossy, Mrs. Cornutt and Mrs. Barton are daugh ters of the Bruners. The Bar tons plan to visit with the Bruners until after New Years Day. The bride attended Dickin son County Community High school, Chapman, Kansas; Kansas State college, Manhat tan, and Central Christian col lege, Bartlesville, Okla. She is employed in the credit depart ment of Sears, Roebuck and company in Portland. Mr. Bigham attended Crater High school and Columbia Christian college, Portland. He is em ployed by Piggly Wiggly Food store, Portland. Among the relatives attend ing the wedding was Otis Hedge, 80, who is a great- uncle of the bridegroom. Wedding Of Interest In Valley . A wedding of interest to valley residents was held De cember 21 in Denver, Colo., when Miss Geraldine Watts of Craig, Colo, became the bride of James A. York, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. York, formerly of 316 Portland ave nue, " Medford, and now of Boise, Idaho. Miss Watts is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Watts. The wedding was. held at the University Boulevard Church of Christ at three o'clock in the afternoon with Clarence Wharton, pastor, of ficiating. Red poinsettias decorated the church for the double ring rites. Miss Katherine Kelly, Spur, Texas; Allen Lewis and Miss Pat Whet stone, both Denver, all stu dents at Abilene Christian college, Abilene, Texas, sang. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor length gown of Chantilly lace and tulle over taffeta fashion ed with fitted lace bodice and bouffant tulle skirt. Her chapel length veil was held by a pearl crown and she car ried a bouquet of white tea roses. The bride and bridegroom recited the marriage" vows and ring pledges from mem ory. Mrs. LeRoy Watts, Long mont, Colo., was matron of honor for her sister-in-law. Bridesmaids were Miss Lyvon Maudlin, Lay, and Miss Betty Jean Trouth, Craig. They wore sheath dresses of poin- settia red brocade with match ing red tulle veils, and car ried white fur muffs trimmed with holly and red satin rib bon. Little Elaine Smith, Craig, was flower girl. She wore a red frock and carried red rose petals in a net bas ket. Her brother, Eugene, was ring bearer. John M. York, Boise, was best man for his brother and ushers were LeRoy Watts and Oliver Edward Watts, broth ers of the bride. Candlelighterg were Miss Sharon Gravely, Grand Junc tion, and Miss Kelly. They wore emerald green brocaded taffeta sheath frocks. Following the ceremony a reception was held. Among those assisting with the recep tion was Mrs. John M. York who was in charge of the guest book. Among the out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. John Cutler, uncle and aunt of the bridegroom, and son, Gene, from Carlsbad, N. M. The couple traveled to Col orado Springs for their wed ding trip, the bride wearing for traveling a Persian blue wool flannel dress with the corsage from her bridal bou quet. The newlyweds will make their home in Abilene where Mr. York is employed. Mrs. York is ' senior at Abi lene Christian college and will continue her studies there. Mr. York, a graduate of Medford High school, was graduated from the college recently. Mrs. Dun stan is the former Miss Shir ley Esther Taylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William O. Tay lor, of Fernwood and Metairie, La. Mr. Dunstan's parents are Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Dun stan, 241 Vashti Way, Med ford. The Rev. W. W. Tipton of ficiated at the eight o'clock evening candlelight cere mony. White chrysanthemums and white gladiolus decorated the church. Mrs. Winton W. Walker was organist and James Bicklam, soloist. The bride wore a white sat in frock styled on princess lines with a jacket of lace. Her short veil was held by a pearl tiara and and she car ried a bouquet of white roses. Miss Sue Evelyn Forten- berry of Pensacola, Fla., and Columbia, Miss, was maid of honor. She wore a royal blue peau de soie frock fashioned with bell skirt. Miss Cathy Taylor, Metairie, La., was bridesmaid for her sister. She wore a rose brocade dress. They both wore veils to match their dresses and carried bou quets of red roses. William Eugene Taylor, brother of the bride, served as best man. Thomas Hunter Smith III was usher. Couple Honored At Open House Central Point-Mr. and Mrs. Lyle T. Parsley, 134 Freeman road, Central Point, celebrat ed their silver wedding anni versary Sunday, December 14. marked the anniversary. Host esses were their daughters, Mrs. Donald Hogenson, Mrs. Donna Mae Osborne and Miss Linda Parsley, Central Point, and Mrs. Charles Jones, Eu gene. The Parsleys also have four grandchildren. About 35 guests called dur ing the open nouse. xne Parsley home was decorated with poinsettias and tradi tional Christmas greenery for the party. , Saturday night the daugh ters gave a family dinner at Mary's Casa to honor their parents. The Parsleys were married December 14, 1933, in Solix, Iowa. Mr. Dunstan is a graduate of Jacksonville High school and was employ ed by Crystal Springs Pack ing company prior to serving with the United States Navy for four years. He is currently a staff sergeant in the Air Force and will attend a muni tions specialist's course for the next four months in Denver, Colo. The couple, who arrived in the valley Christmas day, will leave January 5 for Denver where they will make their home until next summer when Mr. Dunstan will be transferred to. Indian Head, Maryland. , Starts Tomorrow At . . . ! Kinnaird'Frinh Ceremony Held in Long An early December wed ding ceremony in Long Beach, Calif., wedded Miss Meta Jean Frink, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Frink, 1654 Thomas road, Medford, and Lt. Martin John Kinnaird. The bridegroom is a son of Mrs. Felix G. Kinnaird, Springfield, Mo., and the late Mr. Kinnaird. The rites were held Decem ber 6 at 1 o'clock in the after noon at the Naval Station chapel, Long Beach. Ll. W. W. Huffman of the USS Bryce Canyon read the the service, and Cmdr. T. C. Chapman gave the bride in carriage. For her wedding' the bride wore a cocktail length gown of white satin and lace with small hat, long white gloves and white satin slippers. She carried a shower of white roses and carnations. The bride carried a hand kerchief which was a gift from a sorority sister, Mrs. Dom Provost Jr., of Ashland, and the traditional blue gar. ter, worn by several brides, was loaned by Miss Amy Do zier. In her shoe the bride wore a good luck penny loaned by Mrs. John R. Pond, Medford. Miss Johneva Pond, . Med ford, was honor attendant for the bride. Her gown of blue ' satin, cocktail length, was worn with a white net hat, white gloves and blue satin slippers. She carried blue car nations and white roses. Lt. G. A. Rosdahl was best man for the bridegroom, and Lt. Eldon Johnson and Ensign P. I. Lurie were ushers. Mrs. W. W. Huffman played the wedding music. The reception was held in the Officers' club at the Long Beach Naval station. The new lyweds cut the wedding cake with the bridegroom's dress uniform sword. Mrs. Provost took charge of the guest book. About 40 guests attended the wedding and reception. - Lt. Store MEDFORD Miss Mavis Peters" Home for Holidays Miss Mavis Peters, fresh man at Arizona State univer sity, Tempe, is visiting her mother, Mrs. Fay Peters, and brother, Leland, of Jackson ville, for the holidays. Miss Peters, who is major ing in secondary education at the university, was in charge of legal advertising for the Mail Tribune prior to entering college this fall. The student will remain here until Thursday when she will return to her studies. In New York Miss Sara Hart of Medford is now working with the firm of Booz, Allen and Hamilton, business management consult ants in New York City Miss. Hart, a daughter of Mrs. Rob ert Hart, 22 Glen Oak court, lives in White Plains and commutes to the city.
