SHADY COVE-TRAIL Club Has Holiday Party Br EVALYN P. WATSON Shady Cove-Trail Mrs. Scott Brill was hostess for the Shady Cove Garden club's an nual Christmas party at her home in the Rogue-Elk dist rict, Dec. 8. Assistant hostesses were Mrs. A. Myklebye and Mrs. Robert Chamberlain. Mrs. Ed win S. Strother, vice-president presided at the business ses sion. Mrs. William Shepherd presented a lesson about color and members exchanged Christmas cookies. Two new members, Mrs. Travis Littlefield of Shady Cove, and Mrs. Charles Whel den of Trail were taken into the club. The January meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Ken neth Paulson, Shady Cove, on January 12. Co-hostesses will be Mrs. Verne Wilson and Mrs. Lloyd Harris. Mrs. Wil liam Shepherd will give the second lesson on color. The subject for roll call will be "Birds that I have seen late ly." A committee of four club members. Mrs. Lloyd Harris, Mrs. Phillip Alicki. Mrs. W. Sattler, and Mrs. Ed Hous ton, spent Saturday cleaning up the garden club flower beds through the town of Shady Cove. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Kelley of Shady Cove were guests of honor for the farewell din ner party at the Home of Mr. and Mrs. M.. Madsen of Cen tral Point. Other guests in cluded Mr. and Mrs. John Jantzer and Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam P. Jantzer of Grants Pass, George Jantzer of Med ford, Mr. and. Mrs. Edwin Gebhard and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jantzer of Central Point and Carl N. Jantzer and children, Mike and Julie, of Shady Cove. The Kelleys are leaving Shady Cove, Dec. 17, and will spend the first week in California. They will join Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Cham berlain of Trail, at Mesa, Ariz., after Christmas, and on Jan. 7, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hawkins of Lodi, Calif., will arrive in Mesa, and the three couples will travel together to Florida. They will return home the middle of March. , Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hodg es and family, spent Thanks giving with Mrs. Hodges' par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Wal ker in Malin, Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Merton Dav is of Union, Ore., Mr. and Mrs. Ron Young and family of Corvallis, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pfeifer of Grants Pass were dinner guests Thanks giving of Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Pfeifer of Grants Pass were dinner guests on Thanksgiv ing of Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Pfeifer of Shady Cove. The Jack Pfeifer's are son and daughter-in-law of the G. B. Pfeiers. Mrs. Ron Young is a sister of Mrs. Jack Pfeifer and Mr. and Mrs. Davis are her parents. Mrs. Adeline Carl and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Collins were guests on Thanksgiving of Mrs. Mary Chapman of Shady Cove. Mrs. Alexander Mackley of Shady Cove made a trip to Arlington, Calif., with her sister, Mrs. Dorothy Kahn of Redding, Calif., and brother, Paul Wolter, of Eugene, to see their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wolter 'who were crit ically injured in a head-on collision. Both were confined to the Arlington hospital then but are improving now and Mrs. Wolter is now at home confined to a wheel chair. A group of friends in the Shady Cove-Trail area sur prised Mrs. Peg Anderton with a birthday party at the Ashland nursing home, where she is residing. Those calling on her were Mrs. Ray Briggs, Mrs. Thelma Reinning, Mrs. Jim Hopkins and Mrs. Pearl Adair. Sending gifts but unable to attend were Mrs. Ernest Se gessenman, Mrs. Irwin Howe and Mrs. Bill Massey. Mrs. Earl Shephard decorated a cake and the group served cake and ice cream to all of the patients in the hospital. Dr. and Srrs.. David Mor gan and family of Shady Cove; are spending two-weeks Christmas vacation visiting friends and relatives in California. Een Nork had been logging, and are now living at the Rainbow motel. Mr. and Mrs. Don Nagode and baby daughter of Shady Cove have moved from their trailer house at the Rainbow trailer court to the Shady Cove motel. They plan to spend Christmas in Portland where they will visit with Mrs. Nogade's folks, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Nogade and Mrs Nogade's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Cribbs of Port land. A group of friends on Rogue River drive met for their monthly potluck supper and pinochle party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Schulz of Shady Cove. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Willard Huffman of Prospect, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Strother, Dr. and Mrs. Verne Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Conway and Mr. Dick Bartuss, all of Shady Cove, and the host and hostess, the William Schulz's. Mrs. Ernie Segessenman of Shady Cove, overall chairman for the Bloodmobile, wishes to extend her thanks toT all those who helped with this effort and also to those that donated blood Tuesday. There were 115 signers, with 71 pints of blood being taken and 17 rejected for various reasons. Mrs. Charles Cushman of Trail and Miss Joyce Corner of Shady re ceived their "gallon" pins for having donated that much blood. Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Howe made a trip to San Pablo, Calif, recently where they visited with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Steacy. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Strother of Shady Cove, made a trip to Portland recently, where they attended the Hamilton Fund Investment company conven tion at the Multnomah hotel. While there they also visited with their daughters and fam ilies, Mr. and Mrs. Ali Sandoz of Longview, Washington and Mr. and Mrs. Eric Bauer of Veneta, Ore., and their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Strother, Jr. of Lebanon. The Personalities, rock and roll song team comprised ttf Benny Nork, Billy Pfeifer, Duke Wilde and Neil Coop er have had many opportun ities to sing at the various organizations and on one night attended and sang at three affairs the same eve ning, going first to the Pros pect talent show, then to the carnival at the Upper Rogue Grange and finally ending up at the Lion's club smorgas bord at the Rogue River lodge. They are very much in demand now for singing at various functions. Newcomers to Trail are Mr. and .Mrs. Lloyd Silver from Big Bear lake, Calif., who have bought the John Steager house across from the Rogue Elk hotel. Silver has been here for about a month and has had Clyde Stafford do quite a bit of remodeling work on the house. . Mrs. Silver plans to come up in January. The real estate transaction was handled through W. A. Darling, Inc., Shady Cove branch. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lane of King City, Calif, spent a week visiting at the home of Lane's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shepherd, of Shady Cove. News comes of the Lane's son, Vernon Baldwin, that he has been promoted to Sonarman First Class in the Navy. Vernon and his wife and baby daughter are living at 56 Main st. North Kingston, R.I. Mr. and Mrs. William Poit evint of San Diego spent the Thanksgiving days visiting with Bill's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Poitevint, and family of Trail. He is stationed in San Diego. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Ash and son, Bruce, plan to spend Christmas in San Francisco with their daughter and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hor-ton. Newly-elected officers for the "Trail Missiohaires are president, Wilma . Barlow, vice-president, Nellie Sander s o n, treasurer, Elizabeth Copeland and secretary, Dor othy Elder. They held a Christmas party in the church last Wed nesday, with the newly-elected officers being installed. Each received a feather cor sage made by Mrs. Charles Cushman. Mrs. Lewis Collins gave a talk on "A Day in Japan." Mrs. Clarence Wag ler, Mrs. Wayne Ash and Mrs. Carl Scott sang "A Song In The Air'- and Emma Sloper sang "Still Was The Night." Following a potluck dinner the gifts were opened and sec ret pals revealed. Names for secret pals were drawn for the coming year. Hoffa Visions Nationwide Pact Los Angeles -UPD- Team sters boss James Hoffa said Sunday the union was will ing to spend all of the $38 million in, its treasury to se cure a nationwide contract for truck drivers and dockmen when the present pact expires in 1961. In a speech to 600 members of the Los Angeles Freight Drivers Local 208, the Team sters president also ' stressed the need for a "master agree ment to replace the 25,000 separate contracts now in ex istence." "As long as i we stick td- gether we'll get it," he said. "The common carrier group is fearful that the larger and stronger we grow, the. more easier it will be to shut them down." Hoffa told the members of Southern California's largest Teamster local that the na tionwide contract was need ed to meet challenges Mr. and Mrs. Russell El der and family of Shady Cove spent the Thanksgiving holi days with Mrs. Elder's mother and other relatives in Los Angeles. The Shady Cove-Trail Lions Auxiliary held their monthly meeting at the Rogue River lodge. Among the various pi lodge. Among the various plans made were those for a Christmas party to be held for Lions members and their wives. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bartuss of Shady Cove were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Callahan on Sunday. Other guests of the Callahans were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Blaar of Medford. Midnight mass will be cele brated at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic church on Christmas eve. Following mass on Sun day, Dec. 21, .there will be a Christmas tree with treats for the children and a social hour for the adults. Ladies are ask ed to bring either cookies or cake for the social. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Collins and children of Shady Cove are leaving for southern Cali fornia where they will spend Christmas in Ojai and Pasa dena visiting with Mrs. Col lin's mother, Mrs. Clara White, Dean's sister and hus band, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Walsh and his brother and family, the Rev. and Mrs. Mendal Collins. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Vincent of Shady Cove vacationed last week in San Francisco where Bob attended a forestry con vention. Kenny Vincent stay ed with the Dolf Larsons in their absence and Mrs. Bob Engel took care of the two younger children. The Elk-Creek Wranglers a dance band composed of members of Chuck and Mona Brewer of Shady Cove, Polk Smith of Eagle Point and Er- sal Myers of Trail, will play for the.Eagle Point Fireman's ball on Saturday evening, Dec. 20, at the Oasis dance hall in Eagle Point. Admission will be by donation. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bil lington of Colfax, Calif, spent three weeks as house guests of their daughter and hus band, Dr. and Mrs. David Morgan of Shady Cove. At a recent meeting of the Shady Cove Rotary club held at the Rogue River lodge, Mr. W. V. Nusbaum, manager of the Social Security adminis tration office in Medford gave a talk oh the background and present set-up of the admin istration, also the new an nouncements concerning So cial Security laws. The Social Security admin istration is at present under the U. S. Department of Health, Education and Wel fare. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Loftus and family have bought the Jesse Walker house in Shady Cove. Loftus is employed by the Shady Cove Sawmill, they formerly lived in a trailer house in Shady Cove. Guests this week at the reg ular meeting of the Shady Cove-Trail Rotary club . at Rogue River lodge were Glen Hale, Eagle Point, superinten dent of schools, Robert Work, Elk-Trail school principal, and Peter Nashed, Prospect, shop teacher. Jan Gilhousen has returned to his home at Rogue River lodge after spending six months working for Morrison Knudsen . company .in Los Angeles, Calif. H,e will return to college after the first of the year. Members of the Shady Cove Trail Lady Lions club gave a dinner for their husbands at Rogue River lodge Wednes day.
