Martin family of Portland late in the afternoon on Sun day, Dec. 7, the day the fanr lly vanished on a Christmas tree hunt. Clara York and Alfred Knotts, both employes of the Paradise Cafe, said the family came in about 5:30 p.m. Miss York, sister of the cafe's own er. Chuck Cody; said she re membered the man and wife and the daughters because they were "very good-natured, nd having a good time." ' "MiddU Girl" Miss York said that she particularly remembered the dark-haired "middle girl," or Virginia Martin, 13. When she later saw a picture of the girl in a newspaper, she was posi tive it was the same one. The other Martin children are Barbara, 14, and Sue, 11. The family ordered ham burgers and French fries, Miss York said. She recalled the girls wanted to drink soda pop but the father insisted they have milk. They played the juke box, she said. Seek Franchises Northern Utility and North west Natural Gas company are seeking distribution fran chises in the Wasco county area. "The obvious purpose of Northern Utility company," Morgan declared, "has been to delay the hearings so that it can attempt additional maneuvers in its efforts to capture the supply of natural gas in the area of The Dalles for the primary benefit of its parent corporation, Harvey Aluminum company, rather than for the benefit of resi dential and commercial con sumers of gas in the area." "Heavy Pressure" Morgan said, "both Gov. Holmes and I have been sub jected to heavy pressure by representatives of Northern Utility company in this mat ter, but we have refused to compromise the public inter est by bowing to these pressures."
