Tax Collection Letters Sent Ashland-About 25 warning letters will be sent to all busi nessmen who have failed to pay the city's new business license, City Recorder W. E Bartelt said today. A 10-day deadline was set for payment of the tax, Bar telt said. Mayor Richard L, Weill instructed tne city re corder during this week's city council meeting to send the letters. The law was passed April 1, payment is due July 1, Bartelt said. The mayor also instructed Bartelt to give Police Chief Herb Hays a list of business men outside Ashland who are serving customers within the city limits and have not paid the required fee. The action followed re ceipts of an Ashland Chamber of Commerce letter which urged the law be enforced or repealed. The measure is now discriminatory since it is lev ied only against those persons who pay we tax, it was point ed out. During the council meeting Bartelt suggested that a man be posted on each end of town to intercept out-of-town businessmen who do business here by delivery and check truck drivers to see if they have complied . with the li censing law. Mayor, Neill in structed the recorder and the police chief to work together on the matter.
