About 50,000 probably will watch the Rams, 17 - point favorites, against the Packers who usually give the Los Bowl Pact End Noted By Big Ten Chicago -lUPD- The Rose Bowl's future was up for grabs today, the Big Ten hav ing officially accepted the dissolving Pacific Coast con ference's notice that their New Year's day football pact would end after the 1960 game. Nothing was discussed of just what would happen to the classic after that. The Big Ten Friday also accepted the PCC's propose al that the Jan. 1, 1960 wind up game be conducted with the athletic directors of the current Pacific Coast cir cuit acting as trustees. ' The PCC is breaking up at the end of the current school year. '"We have no proposal be fore us to act upon in regard to future bowl games," Big Ten Assistant Commissioner Bill Reed said. Francis has been riding the bench most of the year, partly because he's a rookie and partly because he was a single wing tailback in college. McLoughlin seventh grad ers beat Ashland 27 to 7. The eighth grades of the two schools also played but the score was not reported. Richardson Net Leader New York (UPD Hamilton Richardson, the former Rhod es scholar from Arlington, Va., Saturday regained his place at the head of the class in the National Tennis rank ings. The 25-year-old Louisiana- born netman was rated No. 1 in the recommendations of the men's ranking committee of the JJ.S. Lawn Tennis asso ciation. It marked the second time that Richardson had earned top ranking among the na tion s amateur tennis players. He also topped the 1956 rat ings, then dropped out of the higher echelon last year be cause he was busy with his studies at Oxford university. Richardson currently is in Australia, where he will lead the U.S. Davis Cup team against Italy in the inter-zone finals. The winner will play Australia in the Challenge j Cup round. Kalapus Scores 18 for Badgers Monmouth -(UPD- Pacific university defeated Oregon College of Education 59-52 here Friday night. The teams were knotted 25 25 at halftime. Jerry Kalapus was high man for Pacific with 18 points, followed close ly by Tom Bourgeois with 17. Bill Goodman was high man for OCE, also with 18 points. MUFFLER $ INSTALLED LAKE MOTORS California Impressive In Defeat By MIKE HUDSON United Press International The forthcoming Pacific Coast conference basketball race took on added luster aft er PCC quintets sparkled in a rugged series of intersectional battles. Probably no Coast team was more impressive Friday than California, even though the Bears lost. Nationally- ranked Kansas State dumped the men of Pete Newell 68-65 in a contest which saw the lead change hands seven times. The difference was the Wildcats' 6-8 Bob Boozer who scored 27 pointsand impress ed tne packed house of 7200 with his all-around smooth play. He broke free for an easy lay-up and then tipped in an errant free throw for the Staters last and most im portant four points. Darrall Imhoff stood out for the Bears as he scored 11 points and, grabbed 17 re bounds. Poor free throw shooting proved disastrous to California upset dreams. Huskies Drop Texas Up in Seattle, the Washing ton Huskies won one.. Wash ington downed Houston 68-62 as big Bruno Boin uncorked his hook-shot to lead the scor ing with 19 points. Southern California and UCLA showed unexpected class in sweeping a Los An geles Pan Pacific auditorium double bill against Midwest ern foes. The Trojans opened the pro ceedings by downing Iowa State 71-62. Iowa's 6-7 John Krocheski poured in 26 mar kers. Four Trojans scored in double figures with Jims White and Hanna meshing 18 apiece. Then the Bruins took over and defeated Kansas by a sim ilar 72-61 score. Walt Tor- rence sank 15 field goals and 30 points. Dale Herron and Stu Robertson scored 18 each as Oregon disposed of Wichita 73-57. Oregon State Beavers downed Hawaii 59-40 and dark-horse Idaho bounced Montana State 73-50. The biggest disappointment from the Coast's point-of-view was the collapse of previously unbeaten Washington State against Brigham Young. BYU won 72-59. Steelers Top Chicago Pittsburgh (UPD The pass ing wizardry of Bobby Layne and the record-breaking of his roommate Tom Tracy swept the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 38-21 victory over the Chicago Cardinals in 20-de-gree temperature at Pitt stad ium Saturday. Defensive halfback Dean Derby played an assist role by intercepting three' Cardinal passes that helped set up Steeler scores. The fantastic performance on the icy field enabled the Steelers to close out their best season in 11 years. Their 7-4-1 showing was their best in regular season play since 1947 when the late Jock Suth erland turned in an 8-4 chart. The Steelers jammed 17 points in the second period. Officials of the annual Shriners' hospital all-star foot ball game reported Saturday that DeSylvia, whose Jeffer son team this year won the state prep title for the second straight season, has accepted an invitation to direct the Metropolitan all-stars against a team of State all-stars who will be tutored by Spiegel berg. , Spiegelberg's Medford elev en bowed to Jefferson in the state high school finals last month, but only after giving Jefferson an unexpectedly tough battle. DeSylvia will be assisted by Marvin Cross of Roosevelt and Dan Rollins of West Linn, and Spiegelberg's aides will be Don Requa of Pendleton and Arnold Lewis of Vale. All except Rollins, Lewis and Cross have had previous ex periences coaching Shrine all- star squads. The girl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fipps, had gone wading with other chil dren at Rippling Waters park wast of here. " The body was discovered by Washington county deputy Chuck Sheratt about 500 yards from where the child was wading. Skin-divers re covered the body.
