Eugene Elks Club Destroyed Eugene (UPD A general alarm fire that broke out about 2:30 a.m. today de stroyed the half-million dol lar Eugene Elks Club at 7th and Olive sts. The building's engineer George Bullock, suffered cut thumb when the sidewalk lid to the basement fell on his hand as he and police were attending to get into the build . ing after spotting the blaze He was treated at a Eugene hospital, then released. t Battalion Chief Everett Hall was treated for an ember in his eye, then returned to the fire fighting. Lodge Secretary Bill Van Nuys said the building was valued at half a million dol lars. Club officials said the loss was fully covered by in surance. Firemen hosed down adja cent buildings for hours and kept the blaze from spreading. The last Eugene fire of such major proportions was on July 2, 1956, when the John Warren Hardware store burned, with the loss estimat ed at $200,000. Boy Scoufs Pack 6 Cub Scout Pack 6 had their annual Christmas party Tues day, Dec. 9, in the Washing ton school gymnasium. A total of 217 people attended. Led by Dennis Kurousky, Den 3, gave the flag salute. David Hamaker was inducted into the cubs, and received his Bobcat pin. One-year pins: George Pen- land, Dennis Kurousky, Larry Wright, Dean Hall, Larry Duysen, Victor Johnson, Bobby Drysdale, Wayne Gar ret; Two-year pins: Rodney Dyer, Den Mother Lucille Davis; Three-year pins: Ted Dawson, Dale Wright, Ronny Hale; Denner; Tim Coy, Don ald Lawerence, Dennis Holt; assistant denner: Peter Thanos, David Chapman, Rickey Weaver. Christmas songs were sung, led by ex-Cubmaster Jim Johnston and a large Christ mas tree was decorated by the Cubs, with decorations they had made in den meetings. The tree, and canned goods the Cubs brought, was do nated to the Salvation Army. This has been done for several years. Santa Caus gave candy canes and apples to all the Cubs and their guests and the committee men.
