Mrs. Carter said Friday the five-day canvass completed Wednesday included 2Vi days spent on write-ins by three employees. Cost to the taxpayer for tabulating the votes on the write-in candidates alone was $75 figuring S1.25 an hour for an eight-hour day. County Clerk Bereth P. Hopkins said. Part of the time more than the standard eight hours a day was spent on the canvass, she said. Both Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Hopkins said the fact write ins were published following the primary, resulted in more write-ins in the general elec tion. Few write-in votes were cast in the primary election, they said. However, after seeing the various humorous write - in names, many voters acted on a "monkey-see monkey-do" basis and names of friends, public figures and imaginary characters were written on the ballot. The latter included Walt Disney characters and Lassie of television and movie fame. These were not record ed since they were not names of people, Mrs. Carter explain ed. Write-in candidates with the most number of votes cast were Frank Perl, write-in for county coroner, with 311 votes, and Walter D. Nunley, for circuit court, position No. 3, 146 votes. Snider of Medford, running for reelec tion "unopposed," picked up 67 opponents via write-in votes at the polls Nov. 4 ac cording to the official can vass. But with 7,264 courtesy votes, he was in little danger. Paul Selby, the nearest of the write-in challengers, had but eight votes. Next came Jim- mie Dunlevy, Ward IV city councilman', with seven. Fred Robinson, who polled i 1,152 votes to his nearest op ponent's 1,041 in regaining his Ward I council seat, pick ed up a write-in vote for may or and votes for each of the three other council seats as Uwell. "Fred Robertson" also re ceived a write-in vote in Ward II. Council Race Tallies Ward I: Fred E. Robinson, 1,152; Roy P.
