16A MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Oregon, Sunday, November 16, 1958 I Articles Accepted For SOC Foundation Ashland Article of incor poration for the Southern Oregon College Foundation have been accepted by the Oregon state corporations de partment, it was announced at a joint dinner meetipg of the SOC Citizens Council and the SOC Foundation trustees last week. Seventeen prominent south ern Oregon citizens and edu cators out of a total member ship of 21, adopted the consti tution, by-laws, and the gen era purposes of the founda tion, according to Dr. Elmo N. Sevenson, college presi dent, and selected pro-tem of ficers to serve until April, 1959, at which time official elections will be held. Interm officers are Dr. Ste venson, president; Ralph Moore, vice president; and Frank Van Dyke, secretary treasurer. Object of Foundation The object of the founda tion as outlined in the charter is, in general, "to aid and pro mote research, and charitable activities and purposes: and specifically, but not in limita tion of the foregoing to ac quire, manage, and dispose of, sums of money, real proper ties, and securities as owner or agent or otherwise, for the benefit of Southern Oregon college or any successor insti tution, and for the support or furtherance of any or all of the educational, scientific, re search, or charitable or other lawful activities or purposes tnereof." Functions of the foundation Include serving as an escrow agency; making funds avail able for extra Oregon state board of higher education pur poses (faculty, student, and re search services); political acti vities on behalf of the college; and working as an intermedi ate agency between donors and the OSBHE. Expansion Discussed Expansion of the campus in terms of curriculum offerings, land, and buildings, was dis cussed by Dr. Stevenson, who pointed out that the college now ranks fourth in enroll ment out of 26 Oregon col leges and universities, and third in the size of its campus. College President Leads Delegation Ashland Southern Ore gon college faculty and ad ministration representative at the recent conference in Salem on the needs of sec ondary education were led by Dr. Elmo N. Stevenson, president. Accompanying Dr. Steven son were Dr. Bill Sampson, chairman of the education di vision; Dr. Arthur Kreisman, chairman of the humanities division; Dr. Marshall Wood ell, professor of social sci ence; Dr. Floyd Taylor, asso ciate professor of mathemat ics; Clarence Biebel, associate professor of science; Chester Squire, audi-visual aids di rector; and Dr. Eugene Bow man, professor of education and mathematics. The conference was attend ed by more than 300 educa tors and non-educators. Dr. James B. Conant, for mer president of Harvard university and ex-ambassador to West Germany, discussed various -ways by which the comprehensive needs of American high school stu dents may best be served in the secondary schools. Medford Architect Takes Wisconsin University Job Donald H. Sites, architect and partner in the Medford firm of Seibert and Sites, has accepted a position as head of architectural development at the University of Wisconsin. Sites said he expects to as sume his duties about Feb. 1, remaining here until several projects currently under con struction are completed. At Wisconsin he will be re sponsible for two campuses, in Madison and in Milwaukee. Former Teacher Sites, who resides here at 15 South Keene Wav dr.. moved to Medford from Eu gene three years ago. He was formerly on the teaching staff of the University of Oregon's school of arcitecture. Among the projects carried out by Sites and William H. Seibert during their partner ship are a 20-year develop ment study for Southern Ore gon college, the Jackson Coun ty Juvenile Detention Home, the "Security" building on Hawthorne ave., an electron ics laboratory for Linfield Re search institute and a trailer manufacturing plant for Mid states corporation, both at Mc Minville, and a Later Day Saints church at Etna, Calif. The firm recently under took remodeling of the com munity hospital building on East Main st. as an office building. Seibert will continue his practice in Medford. MacCracken Named To School Commission Ashland-Dr. 'Elliott B. Mac Cracken, chairman .of the Southern Oregon college mathematics department, is serving as a member of the Northwest Commission of Secondary and Higher Schools committee for the accredita tion of the Western Washing ton college of education at Cheney. Committee work by Dr. MacCracken Is largely con cerned with the physical sciences and mathematics areas in regard to teaching, teaching facilities, depart mental procedures, and insti tutional policy in regard to these areas. United States Crop Report ing Board estimates there will be six per cent increase in the numbr of sows far rowed in ten of the Corn Belt states.
