Get a prep quarter-finals and the loser will come to the close of its 1958 gridiron slate. Grants Pass seeks, its first play-off spot since 1953. Med ford won clear cut district banners in 1954, 1955 and 1956. The Tornado and Cave men knotted for the crown last year and Medford moved into the quarter-finals by dis trict vote. The two enter the league finale once more with equal 3-0 district records. Tonight's winner will be host next Friday or Saturday to the District 5 champ which means probably a second game this season with Marsh- field. The Pirates of Coos Bay will be "in" if they lick North Bend tonight. Roseburg is still in the Midcoast loop race but can only tie for the title. This would take an Indian win over Cottage Grove tonight and a Marshfield loss to the NB Bulldogs. And the Pirates likely still would get the dis trict nod on the basis of a 27 to 0 triumph over Roseburg. GP Enthusiasm High Enthusiasm for the District 6 finale has been building high in Grants Pass all week and pre-game activities were climaxed by a big pep rally last night in which Cavemen rooters "burned the Black Tornado." O n Wednesday night the GP gridders ban queted and dedicated the game to their mothers. No such exuberance has been apparent in Tornado land, although feeling for the fracas has picked up at Med ford High school and the foot ballers have indicated an in ward tension which could erupt with gale-like force on Caveman field. Medford, with a multiple single wing and T offense will utilize the running of such backs as Skip Bennett, Ron Reich, ' Ken Durkee, Gerry Lyons, Dan Sieg and Leonard Griggs and the passing of Bob Pond and others against the T attack of Grants Pass. Only two concrete develop ments came out of the meet ing. The American association authorized Milwaukee to shift its franchise from Wichita to Louisville and the South At lantic league added Asheville, N.C., and Columbus, Ga., to its loop. "But that wasn't realign ment," one delegate pointed out. "The ' Braves merely switched their franchise from one club to another in the same league and Asheville and Columbus didn't have ball clubs last year." The talks collapsed when the American association tried to get Fort Worth from the Texas league. The Texas league replied: "Take Dallas, Houston and Fort Worth all three or none at all." L-C Hosts Willamette United Press International Willamette, the natio n's 10th -ranked small college football team, makes its only Portland appearance Satur day in an attempt to keep its unbeaten string going.
