Mrs. Betty Lou Dunlop, SOC associate professor of f education spoke during the morning session on "Person 1 ality: Key to Effective Teach Hing." She was followed by ZMiss Florence Allen, SOEA adviser at SOC, who address ed the group on "Student Edu cation . Associations: Introduc tion to a Challenging Profes t sion." ' ' v Miss Toby Kay Fox, Mrs. 5 Judith Paulsen, Dave Deller, and Dan Thompson, SOC stu ? dents, served on a panel which i discussed "Building a Better World Through Service." Moderator for a panel on "Better Teaching to Survive" was Miss Yvonne Fields, SOC coed, who was followed by Miss Marlene Addington, SOC, who moderated a panel on the topic, "Enriched Liv ing for All." "Teaching is a Professional 4-H Club News WiUing Worktrt We held our first meeting November 1, at the home of Mrs. Roach. There, we organ ized our club. We voted and named it the "Willing' Work ers." Alma Anhorn is our leader. Edith Roach is our as sistant leader. In the latter part of the meeting we decided that we would make sample pot hold ers. These are to be made at home. Our next meeting will be held Dec. 13, at the home of Mrs. Roach. Rose Trautman, Reporter. a Boy Scoufs Pack 4, Wesxside . Pack. 4 West Side, Oak Grove, Cub scouts held their first pack meeting in the Oak Grove cafeteria Tuesday night. Presiding over the meeting was George Bryant, new Cub Master who was introduced by Chuck Shinn, our past Cub Master. Two-year pins were award ed to Craig Parsons, Douglas Raveter, Ralph Flight and Steve Sandberg. Douglas also received two silver arrows to add to his bear badge. Bobby Clark received his bear badge and a gold and silver arrow to go with it. Steve Sandberg will have a silver arrow to show for the work he did this summer and also a denner badge. Four boys took another step forward in cubbing and added the wolf badge to their uni forms. They are Andrew Christian, Henry Keesee, Greg Collins and Ricky Gravelle. . Henry Keesee and Thomas Howell received a denner badge and assistant denner badge. Gifts were given to Chuck Shinn, retiring Cub Master, and Kenny Philips, retiring committeeman, in apprecia tion for the help they have given our pack in the past years. ' Den Mothers and commit teemen for the year were in troduced. After the meeting Cub Scouts, their sister and broth ers enjoyed games, prizes and apple cider. Challenge, was the subject for a panel for which Miss Lois May, SOC senior, served as recorder, and later present ed a summation of the panel's findings for the combined groups. Don Sutton, president of the SOEA, performed a similar function for the panel on "Teaching: A Potentially Se cure Vocation." He is a sopho more at SOC in teacher edu cation in the field of science-mathematics. Stream Conditions To Be Controlled in OSC Research Job Corvallis A quarter-mile stretch of a small stream in which water flow, fish life and other stream conditions will be rigidly controlled is being readied by a team of Oregon State college scientists for a new, long-range research on unknown phases of stream life and management. The unique outdoor labora tory will make it possible to study the relationships and in teractions of water quality, fish production, plant growth including troublesome slime, insect production, stream bed changes, and effects of differ- j ent types of organic wastes. First Studies It is one of the first studies of its kind ever conducted and will provide important infor mation on multiple stream use. - A special dam and diversion ditch will make it possible to keep the stream flow constant about a cubic foot per sec ond throughout the year. The Robert A. Taft sanitary en gineering center" of the U.S. Public Health Service pro videed S9.250 to OSC for dam construction and other work needed to control stream flow. The National Institutes of Health, Public Health Service, has made a grant of S30.385 1 physiology unit of the sani. to the team of scientists for j tary engineering center, Pub- the first year's work, with additional grants of $21,000 earmarked for each of two succeeding years. Research is expected to continue for at least 10 years. , Specialists in Field OSC scientists cooperating on the study are all specialists in various phases of the re search. Project workers in clude Charles E. Warren, fish and game department; Fred J. Burgess, engineering; John D. Lattin, entomology; and Har ry K. Phinney, botany. The -fish toxicology and lie Health Service, which is located on the OSC campus also will cooperate in the studies with Peter Doudoroff, the biologist in charge of this unit.
