Family Council Kenneth J-I want to wear ' the pants! Elaino J-We want to be ' comfortable too! . . Kennelh J.-I am not the ; complaining type. In fact, I think I'm the world's most indulgent husband. All I ask ' is to be the only one in my family who wears the pants. I mean exactly that. My : wife i and my two teen-age . daughters wear pants-practi-cally all the time. When I saw the girls dressed up once for r. party I actually didn't ; recognize them. : They have a variety of I pants to fit every occasion I blue jeans for work and gar- dening, slacks for lounging and shopping, toreador pants for arties at home short shorts and Bermuda shorts for almost evervthintr. I can't un derstand their not having dress pants-the tuxedo type- for formal occasions. ' Elaine J-Whafs to make the big fuss about? Pants are comfortable. That's why men wear them. That's why women like them, too. For one thing, when you wear pants you've got to get off those high heels-and that's a blessing. For another, you have a sense of freedom you just can't get in a dress. Nat urally men resent seeing women as comfortable as they are. It happens that my daugh ters and I have very good figures and we have been told we look wonderful in pants. But every time Ken sees us all together in our pants, he gets red as a beet and says he won't go out with us. Isn't he making a big fuss . over nothing at all? - The Council: The women on : our council claim that most - women are very comfortable in their dresses and moderate ly high heels and they often feel sorry for men in their tight collars and warm jackets. We don't blame a man who accepts the discomforts of con ventional attire for objecting to women's refusal to do the same. Our psychiatrist thinks women addicted to pants may be suffering from a form of envy of the male which has little to do with the clothing itself. He doesn't think it very strange that this makes Ken neth uncomfortable. A woman psychiatrist points out, however, that if Kenneth were more assured in his mas culinity the "challenge" pre sented by women in pants wouldnt get him quite so riled. The other men on our board just don't like pants on women. Our fashion consultant tells us that pants for women are proper attire only for sports wear and at home. They're out for streetwear. We can't blame a man for getting "red as a beet" and turning thumbs down on the outing when the women in his family turn out in improper attire.
