Cuban Ambassador Emilio Nunez-Portuondo told theU JI. Main Political committee that nuclear weapons stabilized the armaments situation be tween Russia and the West and served as a factor for peace. U.N. diplomats were seek ing a disarmament resolution which would bring close to unanimous agreements to end nuclear weapons tests on "terms acceptabel to both the western powers and Russia. Washington-UP&- The Inter ior Department has announc ed that whooping cranes have been sighted twice this month at the Medicine Lake Nation al Wildlife Refuge in Mon tana. ' Ford Reports Net Loss of $26,200,000 Detroit (LTD Ford Motor company Tuesday reported a consolidated net loss of $26, 200,000 for the first nine months of recession-ridden 1958. President Henry Ford II said the loss for the first three quarters of this year com pared with consolidated net earnings of $299,500,000 dur ing the same period of 1957. Local Student Named Flight Commander Eugene William Y'Blood of Medford has been appoint ed as flight commander in the University of Oregon's 690th air force cadet wing. Y'Blood holds the rank of cadet cap tain. The purpose of command cadet positions is to orient the cadet officer to responsi bilities he will find when serying on active duty in the Air Force. Rhodes, the largest island in the Dodecanese, has an area of 542 square miles. Northwest To Get Fertilizer Plant San Francisco -UPD- A $10 million fertilizer plant is plan ned for construction in the Northwest by the Bunker Hill company, with a July, 1960 completion date, accord ing to John D. Bradley, com pany president. Bradley said the plant would have an annual capac ity of 200,000 tons of fertiliz er products. The fertilizer will be manufactured from sulfuric acid, a by-product of Bunker Hill's plants at Kel logg, Idaho. The construction plan was called a "natural diversifica tion move" by Bradley, who emphasized the plant would be in addition to the ' com pany's expansion program currently in progress at Kel logg. Jennifer W. - I don't want to disrupt our lives. Allen W. - Nobody here has any decency. Jennifer W. - Mv husband and I have patched things up recently after a year - lone period in which our marriage was on the rocks. Allen had been unfaithful to me. but I finally f oreave him because I recognized he had fallen into the hands of a regular vixen who has des troyed more than one mar riage. During the period of crisis our "friends" in this commu nity did their bit to add fuel to the flames keemne me supplied with gossip and sym pathy. A few of the men were so "sympathetic" that they offered to supply me with the affection and romance I was missing. When my husband learned of this he hit the roof. He wants to move from this com munity, but his work is here and the children are happy in school. I don't feel we should disrupt our lives because of these awful people. . Allen W. - My faith in hu man nature has taken a real beating in the last year. First, I saw my own sense of morali ty crack open in the face of onslaughts from a cheap vix en. Then I saw our closest friends ready to close in for the kill, like a pack of vul tures. When I look at everyone around us in our community, I am now disgusted by all the deception, cynicism and just plain immorality I . see. It seems to me nobody can be trusted, nobody has any de cency left. ' I would like to return to my home town. The economic op portunities there are not quite as good as they are here, but the people are the salt of the earth. They aren't "sophisti cated but they have more real sense than anyone here. It is more important , to bring up . our children in a morally healthy atmosphere than anything else. The Council: An old story is very much to the point here: Mr. A went to Z community and returned saying, "It is a den of iniquity. There is vice galore - gambling, prostitu tion and sin all over the place." Mr. B. visited the same com munity and returned saying, "The people are so wonderful. Everyone is sincere and hon est and the churches are filled on Sunday." Allen's involvement in im morality in his present com munity exposed him to all of the worst elements. Possibly he had somewhat thoughtless ly fallen among those ele ments before he was led to his own transgressions. We agree ' the caliber of his "friends" was poor since they acted as they did in such a case. He is aware only of the troublemak er at this time. We believe . Allen is now suffering from a strong sense of guilt and moral disgust with himself . Possibly it helps him to purge himself by tak ing note of the evil in others. This is a natural immediate reaction, but in the long run there are more constructive things he can do. He can start noting the good in others and gravitating toward those who show their sense of morality in words and deeds.
