Sims pre sented a demonstration on the making of Christmas decora tions out of tin cans and lids at the Medford Home Exten sion unit meeting Wednesday at the courthouse auditorium. Her unusual collection of hand-made novelties was dis played and methods for mak ing them explained. Also on the afternoon work shop program was Mrs. Josiah Bartlett who gave a talk on the making of children's toys from common household ma terials. Mrs. Frank Armstrong briefed on the making of shirts. During the morning busi ness session, conducted by the chairman, Mrs. Ruth Hunter, plans were made for the pattern-making workshop. Mrs. C. C. Ferris and Mrs. D. K. Varner were appointed to be project leaders and they are to attend their first workshop October 21, and four consecu tive weeks thereafter. Two new members taken into the unit were Mrs. Ralph C. Jones and Mrs. Catherine E. Sowell. Mrs. I. D. Fitsger ald was appointed as secre tary pro tern while Mrs. E. H. Trefren is absent until after Christmas. Mrs. Hunter appointed on her telephone committee Mrs. Mary Payton, Mrs. S. Porter, Mrs. Clarence O. Lack and herself. . Children left home alone would be trapped and helpless if fire or some other emergency should arise , Barker asked parents to take several precautions to protect their children from fire at home. They are: 1. Be sure baby sitters have specific instructions in case of fire; these include ord ers to get the children outside the instant smoke or gas is smelled, the location of at least two escape routes, and how to get in touch with the fire department, parents, doc tor and police. - 2.
