The. agreement came after an all-night bargaining ses sion past a midnight strike deadline set by 92 of the com pany's pilots who fly routes in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Howard Jones, West Coast representative of the ALPA, said George Leonard, an of ficial of the airline, and C. N. Sayen, president of the ALPA, had agreed to accept a recommendation of the Na tional Mediation Board. The board suggested the parties submit the contract dispute to arbitration or to a neutral - one-man fact finding panel to investigate the ques tions involved and make recommendations. ALPA Reserves Right The company and pilots agreed on the one-man panel with the ALPA reserving the right to set another strike deadline if it did not agree with the findings of the neu tral party. ; Although ... pilots of West Coast Airlines technically went out on strike at mid night, Jones said he did not believe any planes were grounded. He said the company had no flights between midnight and 6 a.m. which would have been affected by the walk out. The major issue in the ne gotiations was wages. Rough ly, the pilots sought a $150 a month increase in addition to vacations concessions . and other fringe benefits. Balance of the financing and a block-square site for the development are readv . and completion of the debenture drive is all that stands, in the way of an im mpdiate construction start. Oregon Press Women To Convene Saturday Redmond -(UPD The annual convention of Oregon Press Women will open here Satur day with President Ianthe Smith of the Albany Democrat-Herald presiding. The Oregon group next year will host the National Federation of Press Women at a national convention in Portland. The request went to the Junior Chamber of Com merce, the Salem Soap Box Derby Association and tho Boy Scouts. The school iyt tern was asked to leave one night a week free of athletic and other school events to permit scheduling of youth ac tivities which would not conflict.
