Lodge To Meet - Talisman Lodge, Knights of Pythias, will meet at 8 p.m. today in the Pythian building in Med ford, a spokesman said. The agenda includes plans for the grand lodge in Eugene Oct. 11 through Oct. 14. Refresh ments and a social hour will follow the meeting. Obituaries ANNA MYERS Ashland-Anna Myrtle My ers, 77, of 459 Willow. St., Ashland, died Sept. 6, in Lebanon, Ore., following a month's illness. She was born March 31, 1881, in Kansas and has made her home in the valley for the last 18 years. She was married to Edgar A. Myers Dec. 23, 1900, in Farmer City, 111., and , lived in the Midwest prior to mov ing to California 42 years ago. Mr. Myers died Dec. 25, 1954. Survivors include 11 chil dren, Mrs, A. R. Allen, Ash land; Mrs. Ruth Robinson, Grants Pass: Mrs. Opal Eaton, Roseburg: Mrs. Mildred Loy, Albany: Mrs. Josephine Som mers, Scio; Mrs. Bernice Kihs, Jefferson; Raymond E. Myers, Areata, Calif.; Murray Myers, Bakersfield, Calif.; Curtis Myers, Southgate, Calif.; Vir gil Myers, Eugene; a brother, Jess Johnson of Colorado; a sister, Mrs. Lettie Safley in Iowa; 33 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Lit willer's Mountain View cha pel, Ashland, with the Rev. E. E. Riverside Monday, September 8, 1958 11 Personal Fire in Dump State de partment of forestry patrol men were called up to put out a fire Saturday afternoon in the Prospect community dump. Origin of the blaze was not determined. Ten patrol men and other fighters had to 'go deep down" to exting uish the fire. Two men were left on the scene Saturday night and two crews were sent to . the dump yesterday, patrol headquarters here re ported. Burning Permitted City firemen answered two" grass fire alarms yesterday and in each case allowed the burn ing to continue. One fire east of the Jackson county shops on Barnett rd. was being burned in a safe manner wjth proper permit and the other in the 3000 block of Crater Lake highway also was un der control. Firemen dis patched to a reported fire near a log deck on Sage rd. found no blaze. The alarm was listed as false. Singmaster, Ashland insurance agent, was recent ly appointed to the three-man county board of equalization for a one-year term beginning Sept. 2." PT&T Rate Boost Hearings Slated Salem- (LTD -Initial hearing of direct testimony by Paci fic Telephone and Telegraph company in support of $4, 850,000 in proposed rate in creases will be heard here next Tuesday before. Public Utility Commissioner Howard Morgan. The new rates were to have become effective June 30 of this year, but Morgan sus pended them pending hear ings. . The commissioner's staff has been investigating a simi lar rate increase application by West Coast Telephone com pany. FIRE EXTINGUISHED Central Point-Central Point rural district firemen ex tinguished an oil fire in the boiler room of Medford Ve neer and Plywood company about 2:45 p.m. yesterday. Firemen said that oil appar ently boiled over from the burner. Extent of damage was not learned. Crossing Closure Topic of Meeting A committee report on the proposed closure of the Clark st. railroad crossing is sched uled for the Medford planning commission's meeting at 7:30 p.m. today in the city hall council chamber. A petition opposing the Closure, bearing over 200 sig natures, was filed at city hall this morning. Opposition ap pears to be based on con venience for local residents and for logging trucks, the crossing's use by emergency vehicles and its potential use when and if the Jackson County Housing authority area tract on West Jackson st. becomes a park and recrea tional area. The commission is also ex pected to consider a request from the city council . that it look into the matter of zoning Nine Injured In Auto Mishaps, State Police Say A California couple were taken to Ashland General hos pital early this morning by Litwiller ambulance follow ing an automobile accident at 6:40 a.m. near Pinehurst on the Greensprings highway, ac cording to Oregon state po lice. Injured were Silas Arnold Stulting, 52 and his wife, Tecla, 52, of Oakland, Calif. Stulting was operator of the vehicle traveling east when it was struck by a tractor trailer truck, which skidded on the wet pavement, police reportedi The truck was op erated - by Carl Thomas Jo sephsen, Reno. The Stulting automobile was brought to Medford by wrecker. Four persons were taken to Sacred Heart hospital at 9:20 a.m. today by Medford am bulance following a one ve hicle accident on Highway 99 two miles north of Gold Hill. At the hospital are Claude Crabtree, 26, Vernon Sha dick, 23, Thomas Morrow, 21, all Roseburg, and James Mor row, 23, Cromers, Ohio. Treated and released from Rogue Valley hospital this morning was Francis Adams, 30, Selma, Ore., following an automible accident at 10:30 a.m. at the corner of Kings highway and the Jacksonville Phoenix highway. Adams was taken to the hospital by Med ford ambulance. Also taken to Sacred Heart hospital by Ideal ambulance were Keith A. Branson, 20, of 710 Palm st., and Goffrey David Heim, 19, Klamath Falls, following a one vehicle accident at the intersection of Table Rock and airport roads at 2:10 a.m. Sunday. They were treated for minor head injuries and released, hospital officials reported this morn ing. State police reported that i Heim was operator of vehicle, i He told officers that the car skidded when it approached the iptersection and turned over in the ditch. The car was badly damaged, it was reported. The rest of western Ore gon, except for Josephine and Jackson counties, the south ern tip of Douglas county and the floor of the Willamette valley, remained closed.
