12 MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Oregon, Sunday, September 7. 1958 ILLINOIS VALLEY Discuss Plans For Co-op By RUTH RAUSCH Cave Junction A move ment was made at the California-Oregon Chrome Pro ducers meeting Saturday, Ang. 30, at Cave Junction to form a miners' .co-op. The plan, designed along the same set-up as the grange co-ops, will extend from central Cal iforia through Orgon. The legal papers drawn up for the non-profit organiza tion were praperd by Bruce Manley, Medford attorney, and president of the associa tion, were filed this week. The purpose of this meeting was mainly to organize and get a co-op underway that would offer more strength at the next session of Congress in January. It is hoped that the force of an organized group will have a better chanoe to gain government help than individual miners. Fay Bristol of Grants Pass and Elwood Hussey of Cave Junction, who will attend the Western Miners conference in San Francisco, will give their reports at the next Chrome Producers association meeting the last Saturday in September. tie staged on Main st. during Saturday's Jubilee events. Huge Roior Set In Powerhouse Cougar, Wash.-flJPB-The pre cision task of positioning a 287-ton generator rotor inside a circled stator with only fractions of an inch of clear ance was completed yesterday at the Swift hydroelectric project powerhouse east of here. The 68,000-kilowatt capac ity rotor measures 22 feet in diameter and stands on a 24- foot-long steel shaft which connects with the turbine that will turn the rotor inside the stator and generate electric ity. Don R. McClung, executive vice president of Pacific Power & Light Company, re ported the unit is capable of generating enough electricity to supply the needs of 80,000 homes in the Northwest. Art Kellert, parade master for the annual Illinois Valley Labor Day Jubilee parade ex pressed his appreciation for the splendid cooperation he received from everyone in making this year's parade a success. Kellert also stated that the necessary steps were being taken to make it possible for the Valley to have its own band in the future for such occasions. Heine's Kiddie Band from Medford supplied the march music.
