FAG ONE Oregon National Guard National Guard troops com pleted their first month of the new training phase with high morale and a better under standing of their individual duties and positions. The pro gram is being closely watch ed by higher headquarters. In order for a unit to be kept at the high degree of training required by the de partment of defense. Oregon National Guard has been or dered to drill for eight hours on Sunday. Members of the Medford and other units of the 186th Infantry division have com pleted the required basic, in dividual and advanced train ing. The next phase of train ing includes unit basic, with platoons and sections training together. During the past two training periods the cooks have prepared dinner for the unit. Start Training The communication platoon Is starting its training in CPX (Command Post Exercise), in which wire circuits and radio nets are completed from the companies to a message cen ter. The pioneer and ammo pla toon has constructed a road block, laid a mine field, and operated an ammo depot. The motor section has been dis patching vehicles and per forming first and second ecru Ion maintenance on the ve il ides. . The supply section has been keepmg up records ana maintenance on organization al ' equipment and the opera tion section has been maKing no lesson plans, training schedules for next quarter, and keeping up training charts and records. Athletic Activities : The men move out at 7:30 a.m. and return to the armory at 4:30 cm. The last hour of training is spent in clean ing up and maintaining equip Thirinff recall the men are permitted to participate In various atnleuc activities, and all the men are per mitted to attend the church r1 their choice. Friends, families and the opnral Dublic are permitted to observe the training after they check with the guard at the entrance to the training area. The cooks and mechanics The rattling of a rattle snake may be heard up to 100 feet away. EXPLAINING after 25 jears, Helen Wills Roark says back injury caused her to abruptly quit tennis match she was playing against Helen Jacobs. Mrs. Roark lives in Los Angeles. , f - A m tat train in the National Guard building at Camp White and the pioneer and ammo pla toon trains at Tou Velle State park. Headquarters company will hold a picnic, with family, members and friends invited, on Sunday, Sept. 14. Permanent Bridge The pioneer and ammo pla toon will construct a perma nent bridge for the Oregon park commission at the far end of Tou Velle park, over a creek bed; the communica tions platoon will set up a radio net and wire net for an attack problem; and the motor section will operate a motor pool. On Sept. 7 three enlisted men will leave for six months training at Fort Ord, Calif. They are Darrell Greb, cleri cal school; Robert Sevick, en gineer, school; and R. Mek vold. auto mechanics school Fred Corbin and J. Garboden have rejoined the unit after completion of their six months training. The Oregon National Guard has placed first in armory trammg for the third consecu tive year.- The rating was from Sixth Army headquar ters which serves seven west ern states.
