White Cross Circles To Sew for, Missions White Cross circles of the Women's Fellowshipof First Baptist church will meet on Tuesday, August 26, to sew and make bandages for mis sions. The day circles will meet at 10:30 a.m. and those attending are to bring a sack lunch; evening circles will meet at 7:30 p.m. Members for both groups are reminded to bring scissors, cotton and woolen pieces for quilts, old sheets for bandages, and old nylon stockings for stuffing dolls. Martha circle will meet with the chairman, Mrs. Don Piatt, 30 Laurel street; Esther circle will meet at the Ralph Wilson home, 2865 Hanley rd., with co-chairman, Mrs. Fred Landers, in charge; and Mrs. Dora Brantley will be hostess to Ruth circle at her home, 339 Mae st. Mrs. Edith Arnold will en tertain Lydia circle at 912 West 11th street, Mrs. M. Put ney is chairman; Hannah cir cle will meet at the Russell Carr home, 2328 Ruhl Way, Mrs. Richard Nordquist is chairman. Lydia and Hannah circles meet at 7:30 p.m. Crockers Home From Convention Mr. and Mrs. John C. Crocker, Coker Butte road, recently returned from Des Moines, Iowa, where they at tended the 1958 national con vention for the Rural fetter Carriers' association. Mr. Crocker is Oregon state president of the associa tion and was a delegate to the meeting. The Crockers were joined in Portland by Mrs. Lloyd Schram, state presi dent for the auxiliary, and Mr. Schram, and then trav eled east by train ' via the northern route. While in Des Moines the Crockers toured the Mere dith Publishing company plant where Better Homes and Gardens and Successful Farming magazines are pub lished; attended a banquet at the Veteran Memorial audi torium; and toured the well known Salisbury House, home of Iowa State Educa tion association. The Salisbury House was brought to this country from England in sections. E. Ousterhout, Dutton road, and other relatives. The fam ily, which has been living in Yakima, Wash., will go to Seattle this fall where Mr. Ousterhout will study at the University of Washington to ward a master's degree. He is a child welfare specialist. Lebanese, Syrians Allow Oil to Pass Beirut, Lebanon (DPD Leb- anorf and Syria opened their borders yesterday for the transport of oil in the first concrete peace move since the United Nations approved an Arab plan for a Middle East settlement. - The frontier between the two states was shut down after revolt broke out in Leb anon last May. The Lebanese charged and the Syrians de nied that infiltrations of re inforcements from Syria were aidins the Lebanese rebels. There was no immediate in dication of when tank trucks would resume transportation of Lebanese oil and gasoline across the frontier. But the expectation in Beirut was that the oil shipments would start soon. Industrialists, meanwhile. announced cancellation of plans to stage an "owners' strike" Monday to protest continuing disruption of the nation's economic life by the rebels.
