CENTRAL POINT FFA.Chqpter Meets By DORIS HUGHES Central Point The Crater chapter of the Future Farm ers of America met recently in the vocational agriculture room of Crater High school. Allan Barnes presided. A committee was appointed to study the possibilities of pur chasing a new five-speed trac tor to replace the four-speed one which the chapter now owns, in aacuiion to me tusi of the tractor itself, members also discussed the fact that ImDlements now owned by the chapter would have to be . replaced In a larger size to fit the new tractor. The Crater chapter, FFA donated the use of the chap ter tractor in preparation lor the' FFA fair. The tractor was used to assist 4-H boys and girls in preparing their barns for livestock. The Crater chapter present ed a television program Fri day. Aug. 15. Allan Barnes was master of ceremonies. Speakers were Dave Mack, George Gilman, Bill White and Dave Foote. Don Den ning is chapter reporter. The Crater agricultural shop and study hall have been remodeled and painted py Ed Griggs, Bill MacFarlane and Jean Griggs. Griggs and Mac Farlane are agriculture in structors and Mrs. Griggs is secretary of the department. Gold Hill Library Extending Hours The Gold Hill branch of the Jackson county library will extend its opening hours, be ginning Sept. 2, to include Fri day as well as Tuesday eve nings, according to Mrs. jewel Routh, librarian. The schedule will be Tues days. 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m and Fridays, 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 t.m. Mrs. Routh reported in creasing use of the Gold Hill library with the expansion of its book stock from 545 cat aloged volumes July 1, 1957, to the present collection of 1,014 volumes. Each month 60 new titles are brought to Gold Hill from the Jackson county library headquarters in Med ford and exchanged for 60 titles no longer needed by Gold Hill readers. They in elude current new publica tions as well as standard old er works, books for children and teen-agers as well as for adult readers, and both fac tual books and fiction. An average of 250 volumes have been circulated each month during the past year, to a total of 71 registered bor rowers. Borrowers' cards is sued by any Jackson county library agency, including the -headquarters library in Med ford, will be honored in the Gold Hill library. All Jack son county readers are espe cially welcome to use the Gold Hill library while the Med ford Public library building is closed for repairs the first two weeks in September, Mrs. Routh said. Barnharf Low on Microwave Station A Medford contractor, How ard Barnhart, 722 Dakota ave., was low bidder on a contract for construction of " a Pacific Telephone micro wave station in Douglas coun ty, according to J. H. Creager, telephone manager here. , Creager said Barnhart was awarded a $27,625 contract to build a microwave radio relay building and tower foot ings at Kenyon mountain. The 25 by 27-foot, one-story building will be of concrete block construction. It will be framed for expansion on one side. The relay station on Ken yon mountain is one1 of sev eral to be constructed as part of a joint Pacific Telephone West Coast Telephone com pany project establishing a relay system between Rose burg and Coos Bay. The system is tentatively scheduled to be in operation early ia W60. - I Guests over the week end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. LL. C.
