r New Casual Shoes To Take Teen-Age Miss Everywhere From 9 a m. to 9 p.m. (at least) the new casual shoes will take the teen-age miss everywhere this fall. Striking casual note even in shoes for dress wear, new desizns are interpreted in col orful, glove-soft leathers with smooth and silky brushed sur faces that accentuate the lean lines of the tanered toe the silhouette that predominates this season. Followinz prevailing teen age styles in apparel, chemise and trapeze shoes turn up in several versions. T-straps and ties are two of the most pop ular treatments in smooth leather pumps. Others feature filigree buckles, flat bows or just plain round or v-throat lines. Touches of Metals On flats, particularly, high ridin? varans, cutouts and buckle treatments are popu lar. with touches of shiny metals used as buckles, hooks and eyes and lace tips. Brushed leather is empha sized bv autumn leaf colors such as burnished reds, greens browns and golds. Often, too, th brushed leather is accent ed with touches of smooth leather in matching or con trasting color. In the dressier flats, the lit tie skimmers are expected to have top billing in every teen er', shoe wardrobe. These are shell-type shoes made in soft smooth leathers with very flat heels and lightweight, flexible leather soles in a complete range of colors and almost always unadorned. Taking their designs from the very expensive hand made Scandinavian and Eur opean ski sweaters, the Am erican versions are produced by machine to duplicate the originals in texture as well as in appearance. Many of these new Fall sweaters use man-made fibers either entirely or in blends with lambs wool. These can be washed easily without loss of shape and no worries about shrinking or stretching. Ivy fans will go for Shetland crew neck sweaters. Classes Discuss Dress Seriously An important facet of school life nowadays is a growing movement through out the country with serious class discussions about be havior and dress. These are encouraged by PTA groups, educators, and others as a way to combat what some people say is a trend to excessive casualness which does, at times, border on carelessness. The thought behind the whole idea is that a boy who is tidy about the way he dresses wih probably want to be tidy in his work and gen eral behavior. Being well dressed Is easy for the young fellow if when buying needed items for his back-to-school outfit we show him that his clothes are se lected first, according to func tion. And it's a lot of fun for him, too, because there are so many new, attractive cloth ing ideas that he will like. White is right in the big bulkies all white, or white with color trim such as red at the cuffs and bottom. Stripes are also right big bold ones. The other top colors are red, black, and gray. t The low-button .look with the deep V-opening is also fashion new and very big on campuses everywhere! Both the bulky knits for outdoors or the lighter weights, which you can wear to class are top favorites. The bulkies are smart in big bold stripes; the lightweights are good in the solid colors with harmonizing trim such as natural with brown edging. DANCING INTO FASHION Nylon stretch tights and stockings, jet black or cqjor ful, dance onto the fall fash Ion scene for wear with sports and casual clothes. Ph. SP 2-5702 ..jj.lvft J Subteen to Select From Attractive New Designs A subteen's interest in fash ion, and her good taste, can be indulged to the full this season, as she selects from the attractive new clothes de signers have created for her. Every important fashion "look" is represented chem ise, trapeze, blouson, bubble, empire, in dresses, suits, coats and separates flattering ly scaled to the' figure of the growing-up girl. What's more, a subteen's favorite classic the boy coat, the car coat, the shirtwaist dress, the sweater and skirt are freshly styled to give a real lift to young wardrobes. Unfitted Silhouettes Unfitted silhouettes, and es pecially the chemise, appear in abundance. Slim and easy straight-line or tunnel-back dresses, low-belted and bowed coats, chemise jumpers and blouses, and the overblouse or long sweater plus a straight or pleated, skirt give the subteen a generous share of the fash ion news. Bloused-top chemises bid for popularity. Classic shirt waists go chemise, and so do the well-liked tartans, in such styles as a long-torso dress with a patent belt low-placed at the point where the skirt flares into a flounce. The trapeze, fitted through the shoulders and swinging free from under the arms, is subteen-styled in dresses, sap arates and coats. Important SCARF NEWS Chiffon scarves, a year round favorite, appear for fall in fashion's newest col ors. Paisleys, florals and geo metries decorate silk scarves. Style emphasis in Ivy mod el slacks, this fall, is placed on pocket flaps, both square and rounded, with fancy facings. Fringe edges belts, blouses, even hems of many fashions. for party occasions are em-pire-waisted trapeze and bubble-skirted dresses. Emphasis on Bowi Subteen coats, whether chemise or trapeze, semi-fitted, bloused or high-waisted, put the emphasis on bows and back interest. Bows decorate collars, yoke backs or fronts, and mark low waistlines. Leather belts outline high or low waistlines. Among new treatments for the classics is the boy coat HIP LENGTH Walking suits, fashion-important for fall, range from the hip length jacket with skirt to the almost-full-length coat with either a skirt or dress. Young Look Being Followed in Adult Fashions in Fall Everywhere in fashion, the "young look" is news, and the result is that little girls, who have the tremendous advan tage of not only looking but bekg young, are setting the fashion pace for fall. In recent seasons, girls' wear has copied adult fash ions, but fall '58 reverses the process, and the grown-ups copy the girls. This is apparent in the way a girls' favorite, the pyramid coat, has evolved into the trapeze-line coat. And the same thing is true of high-waisted trapeze dress es, fitted through the shoul ders and then flaring out in a manner reminiscent of such young classics as the smock dress and the high-yoked, full skirted dress. Chemise Devotees Along with their enthusi asm for the trapeze line in both coats and dresses, grade-school-age fashion-plates are devotees of the chemise es pecially the low-belted chem ise coat and the low-flounced chemise dress. Here again, the girls can claim a "fashion first," be cause this schoolgirl - look chemise, with its long, easy lines and low-placed pleats or flounce, also appears in adult wear and derives from chil dren's styles of 1910. Girls' separates, whether meant to mix or to match, whether chemise or trapeze in loks, share the basic idea that blouses, and sweaters, too, are to be worn outside their skirts, not tucked in. Long and easy or "bloused" blouses and sweaters appear with slim, pleated or flounced skirts, while jutting trapeze tops pair up with trapeze skirts. , An alternative silhouette for girls consists of tradition al dresses and coats, with nat ural waistlines and full skirts. my baby want CARPI ILM Ira U liJ Is .) mm m 520 Oriental splendor marks this fall's loungewear with jewel bright and glowing printed fabrics cu,t in flowing hostess gowns and dramatic lounge pajamas.
