Women of Rogue Valley Country club will be hostesses for the fourth and final tourn ament this summer of the Willamette Valley - Southern Oregon Women's Golf associa- OSAA Grid Clinic Set For Tonight An Oregon School Activi t i e s association football clinic will be held at 8 o'clock tonight in Room 2d at Medford Senior High school. The meeting is primarily for prospective officials for 1958 high school games but is open also to coaches in terested. A. Oden Hawes, assistant secretary-treasurer of the OSAA, will show ihe film, "Football for Millions." He will discuss rule changes, present a general summary of all rules and the mechan ics of officiating. Tests for certification of officials will be available. The meeting is of import ance to both those men who have had experience as grid arbiters and those who are looking toward their first season as officials. Eighteen holes of medal play 'are billed. In addition to seeking individual net and gross honors, women will be engaged in the final play for the season team trophy. Grants Pass Leading Grants Pass currently lead ing in the four-lady team event with Laurelwood second and Rogue Valley third. Tabu lations are based on low net scores and the three low totals of each team in the four tourneys this summer count toward the trophy. Last groups of ladies are scheduled to tee off at 9:40 a.m. and completion of rounds will be in mid-afternoon. Low gross and two low net trophies are being awarded in each division. J., paid the highest price for a yearling at Tues day night's session of the Fa-sig-Tipton sales when he pur chased a chestnut colt by Bat tlefield for 525,000. M and M Chain Saw and Parsons Motors will meet in the opener at 7 p.m. Neither has been beaten m loop con tention. Chain Saw has six victories and will complete its regular season with the game. Parsons is unmarred in five Contests and will wind-up regular play next Monday. . In the 8:30 p.m. fracas on Thursday, the newly-crowned state women's champs, Rogue Valley Dairy Maids will face Eagle Point. Games next Monday night, August 18, wind up the regu lar loop play, except for com pletion of a mix between Eagle Point and the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Their July 21 game was halted with the score at 21 to 20 for the Jaycees after five innings and more than two hours of play. Time was running late and forced the stop. Play-off among the top four clubs in the loop is set to open Thursday, Aug. 21. Cham Saw, Parsons and Butte Falls have cinched spots in the playoff and the Cheney Studs, Eagle Point and Bureau of Reclamation are in the run ning for the other. -let?? WenafcHee Victim of Brave Hex By United Press International Two extra inning games and one jinx contest featured play Tuesday night in the Northwest league. Eugene nicked Lewiston 2-1 and Salem topped Yakima 5-4 in a pair of 11-inning games while Tri-City continued its home-town hex over We natchee with a 4-2 victory. The Tri-City victory was the tenth straight victory for the Braves over the Chiefs at Kennewick and snapped a six g a m e Wenatchee winning streak. Tri-City got all its runs in the bottom of the fifth. Reg gie Hamilton drove in one run and Don Koski sent the other three across with a tremen dous homer that carried 400 feet over the centerf ield fence. Bill Eastburn scored from third on a wild pitch to give Eugene its victory over Lewis ton. Eugene got one run in the fifth on Danny Holden's solo homer. Lewiston tied it up in the eighth on a triple by Roger Herrscher and a single by John McNamara. John Myers, Eugene hurler, fanned 17 and walked not a single hitter in besting Frosty Norris in a tight hurling duel. Vern Kindsfather doubled in the 11th, moved up on a walk and an infield single and scored on a walk to give Sa lem its victory. Herb Anderson's two-run triple sent Yakima ahead 4-2 in the ninth but Jack Dunn's two-run double tied it in the Salem half of the inning. YMCA Nat Team Third Medford's YMCA swim team placed third behind Eugene and Lakeview last week end in the Southern Oregon Invitational Swim meet sponsored by the Rose burg Jaycees. Local swimmers plunged to 12 first places in the 10-team, two-day meet. Linda Hess, 14 year old lo cal girl, picked up half of the first place ribbons as she swam to victories in the 40 yard freestyle, 40 yard back stroke, 40 yard breaststoke, 80 yard individual medley, and 100 yard freestyle. She also was a member of the .girls' winning 160 yard free style relay team, and the sec ond place 160 yard freestyle team in the women's division. Miss Hess was top scorer of the meet with 41 points. Her closest rival was Spence Al pert of Eugene, who managed to collect 3 6 Vz tallie. Shirley Hopkins, another Medford swimmer, placed third among the girls with 25 points. Medford Host Lakeview copped the girls' team trophy with 115 points, with the locals placing sec ond with 101. The Eugene swimmers tal lied 229 points to nab first in the. combined team totals. Lakeview's total was 212 and Medford had 179. Other teams entered in the 50-event meet were Eugene Country club, Roseburg, Bend, North Bend, Klamath Falls, Sweet Home, and St. Helens. The next meet for the Med ford club will be Saturday, Aug. 16 beginning at 10 a.m. at Hawthorne park. Bill Dellinger of Spring field, Jim Grelle of Portland and Dave Edstrom of Sher wood made track history in Russia, Hungary, Poland and Greece. They were to arrive at Portland International Air port at 3:20 p.m. New York (UPD The United States track and field team which scored victories in meets at Moscow, Warsaw, Budapest and Athens was to receive an official salute from the City of New York today. The athletes, who returned from their tour at 12:41 a.m. (EDT) today when their plane from Shannon, Ireland, ar rived at Idlewild airport, grabbed a few hours' sleep after arrival and then were due for an official reception. The U.S. men's squad out scored their rivals in each of the four capital cities, al though no official point tally was kept at either Budapest or Athens.
