Wooton, who had been with Des Moines, la., of the West ern association for 1V2 months Shut Out Beavers Vancouver, B.C. (UPD Righthander Erv Palica scat tered six singles as the Van couver Mounties shut out the Portland Beavers 7-0 before 3,370 fans at Capilano stadium Friday night. Palica's shutout was his fifth of the season and raised the remarkable total for the Mounties pitching staff to 19 for the season, far and away the highest in the league. The announcement came as no surprise and the unani mous poll seemed necessary since Stanford, the school that had been "on the fence" over the idea of disbanding, said they were after all in favor of the move. WSC an nounced last week it would support a motion to dissolve the PCC. Glenn T. Seaborg, Chancel lor of University of California speaking for all the faculty this summer, said that the Dodgers let him go to make way for younger players in their system. He is 24. The Medfordite had a 3-4 record at Des Moines, playing in about 15 games, in 10 of which he started. He opened the season with Victoria of the Texas league and was 0-3 in a dozen or so games there. Wooton is now free to sign with whichever pro club he chooses when he so desires or when the opportunity arises. He said he had some chances to take pro or semi-pro base ball jobs for the rest of the season but returned to Med ford to be certain of employ ment for the winter months. Just before he was released, Wooton said, he felt he was "coming around" but was not being given much opportunity to pitch. The chucker has never seemed to blossom out in his season in the minors. "I still think I can do it," Wooton declared. Megale Leaves Klamath Falls Corvallis (UPD Don Me gale, who coached Klamath Falls to the state A-l high school championship last March, has accepted a posi tion as assistant professor in the Oregon State college phy sical education department. Megale is a 1953 graduate of Oregon State. His Pelican tennis team tied for the state tennis title this spring. Megale, 28, is a native of Coos Bay. He and his wife have three sons and a daugh ter. Justice Earl Warren Views Dodger Playing Los Angeles (UPD Sports minded Chief Justice Earl Warren was here on a visit Saturday and has seen the Dodgers perform in their Los Angeles uniform, witnessing his first major league baseball game in California. Baseball fans were surpris ed Friday night when they recognized the distinguished former governor of California waiting In line for tickets he had reserved at the coliseum. He watched the Dodgers de feat the Giants 6-3. . DOWN representatives at the special meeting, said the members "formally and finally" voted for dissolution. Asked if there were any "tears shed," he said "No, but there was some feeling . . .' The motion to dissolve was made at 9:26 a.m. and was officially adopted four min utes later. "There was no de bate," Seaborg said. The conferees decided to take up the problem of divid ing up the PCC assets, cur rently about $175,000, at the winter, 1958 and spring, 1959 sessions. Seaborg said, how ever, they would probably tackle the Rose Bowl prob lem later Saturday. The members passed by an 8-1 vote a motion for dividing up the assets "on the basis of existing conference formu la," or 5 per cent to Idaho, and UTi per cent to each of the other eight members. Ida ho voted against the motion, which was put forth by Wash ington and seconded by Ore gon State. There was no discussion of reorganization at the morning meeting, Seaborg said. Swoon's Son, with Jockey Dave Erb aboard, broke third in a field of 10 and was never worse than that position as he covered the mile in 1:34 45, only 25 of a second off the track record set by Equipoise for the distance in 1932. A crowd of 27,474 watched Swoon's Son, fourth choice in the betting, score a half length victory over Bards town in the final 70 yards of the Equipoise. Indian Creek finished third, half length back of Bardstown. Swoon's Son p:aid $18.00, $9.80 and $6.00 for his triumph, the sec ond straight year in which he has won the event. Round Ta ble, who finished fifth, was out of the money for the first time in 14 races this year. He had won 11 and placed in two others. The favorite probably will be Maverick, Bill Waggoner's speed-wagon from Las Vegas, Nev. The Maverick, with Cow boy Bill Stead at the controls, set a qualifying record of 119.956 miles per hour while taking three laps on the placid lake waters. The Maverick already has won two major events this year, including the Mapes Cud at Lake Tahoe, Calif., Miss Bardahl, with dare devil Miro Slovak at the wheel, was the last to quali fy and she checked in with an average speed of 98.901. The Long Beach, Calif., lass who has been western region al overall winner three straight years, ran up a 1446Vi-point total to win the firls trick riding laurels. Vicki also took the slalom in her division. Joe Balcoa and Carol Van Wyk, both of Stockton, Calif., competing in the veteran's and women's classes, respec tively, for the first time in a regional meet were slalom victors Friday. Other slalom champions were Fred Pendle bury, San Diego, Calif., jun ior boys, and Doug Kotlar, Burbank, Calif., pee wees. Randy Paragary won pee wee tricks on Friday. Patterson Works Out . Oceanside, Calif. (UPD Heavyweight Champion Floyd Patterson worked over two new sparring mates Saturday in a ring session witnessed by more than 500 persons at the Oceanside Recreation center. Patterson worked two rounds each with Frank Mc Coy and Cisco Rodriguez, both light heavyweights, and his manager and trainer both in dicated satisfaction with the workout. Paul Wright suffered a rib injury earlier" and won't be able to spar - with Patterson again, cutting down the num ber of men available to work with the champion. More boxing is set for to day, according to a tentative schedule worked out for Pat terson, who fights Roy Harris Aug. 18. Miss Williams had 1228ii. Vicki had a 43-buoy count in her slalom division. Colleen Dodge, Sacramento, Calif., and Miss Williams each rounded 38, with Miss Dodge taking the run-off for second. Balcoa, 1955 regional over all champ in the men's class, four times regional runner-up. and one-time holder of the world distance skiing mark, made 38 buoys to pace the veteran's slalom. He beat out Wally Pallack, Sunnyvale, Calif., Floyd Vance, Sacra mento, Calif., and Al Eames, Antioch, Calif., each with 37. In the extra competition, Pal lack finished second, Vance third and Eames fourth. Miss Van Wyk, second in the national girls slalom in 1957, had a 35-buoy total for her decision. Her mother, Mrs. Jane Van Wyk, Stockton, was second with 19.
