But they voiced confidence it won't have any effect when the House decides whether to cite Presidential Assistant Sherman Adams' gift-giving friend for contempt of Con gress. They predicted over whelming approval of the contempt citation. Friday Vols Seen Speaker Sam Rayburn said the House probably would vote Friday on the citation already approved unanimous ly by both the House influence-investigating subcommit tee and its parent Commerce Committee. If the House also approves, Goldfine would face almost certain prosecution in 'a fed eral district court. If convict ed he could be sentenced to a maximum of one year in prison and fined $1,000. The Boston textile tycoon, who lavished vicuna coats and other gifts on public offi cials, sent identical letters Wednesday to all House mem bers except members of the Commerce Committee. It out lined what a spokesman for Goldfine called the ."true facts" about Goldfine's testi mony before the influence subcommittee. Accusation Held Unjust It repeated his contention it was unjust to accuse him of contempt for refusing to answer 22 questions about his tangled finances. It also re peated his claim the questions were not relevant to the sub committee's investigation of his alleged influence-for-fa- vors relationship with Adams. Goldfine also sent along in advance a friendly note to each congressman's adminis trative assistant thanking them in advance for slipping his "true facts" letter "near the top of the pile on your boss' desk."
