Traveler in Small Villages of Turkey Accepted by People By JERRY LIEBMAN (Last in a Series) The traveler in the small villages of Turkey will find himself accepted with pleas ure. There is none of the fear and suspicion of the stranger that can sometimes be felt in provincial villages. A tourist need know only a few words of the language and this is true, I should think, in most places of the world. The Turkish words for yes, no, please, thank you, hello, goodbye, when, beau tiful and the word for his profession will suffice. It does seem strange, however, to be in a country whose language roots differ so far from English or any of the languages I know. Signs are meaningless and defy being pieced together with scraps of French, English, Spanish and other Latin-derived lan guages. AN UNHAPPY ERROR Billings, Mont. (UPD After Pepe le Pew, a tame, deodor ized skunk, escaped Monday night, his owners were happy to hear a skunk had been spotted in the basement of a nearby residence. The own ers, telephone operators Frances Moore and Jessie Guthrie, went to the scene and captured the skunk. Wrong skunk. 1 have developed quite a vocabulary of pointing and play a game of charades each day to get what I am after. I should be up to a philoso phical discussion soon. Traveler Advised The traveler in Turkey is advised to bring along a good ly supply of patience, as well, since this is an oriental coun try and buses, for example, do not run on schedule. They may leave late, or even early, but not on schedule. If .not enough passengers can be gathered, they do not leave at all. Food can be ordered by go ing into the kitchen and point ing. This also gives a chance to inspect the cleanliness, but do not be too fussy or you might never eat. Traveling has taught me that it is easiest to carry a supply of Halizone tablets for drinking water and paregoric for the results of bad food. Trust to a healthy internal system and let it go at that. Water is a danger, of course, but I am delighted to say Turkish beer and wine are wonderful. So why care? If you are at all shy, stay at home. The Turks get im mense fun out of my charades and attempts to speak the lan guage. The entire restaurant joins . in the good-natured scene. Luckily, so do I. A laugh is the best possible thing to bring from America. TRY OUR BUDGET WISE DRYCLEANING at tow, tow prkesl New Counter Prices DRESSES Plain o SUITS 2-pc.
