Mrs. Wayne Saffer is in charge of the beginners group. Community church choir practice was held at the John Hill home. Part of the evening was spent in viewing collec tions of Mrs. Hill and daugh ter, Delilah, of old dishes and the 76 varieties of salt and pepper shakers. George Bell, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bell, has re ceived his draft notice and is to report at the Grants Pass office Monday, July 28. The Illinois Valley Grange potluck picnic is slated for Sunday, July 27, at noon in Grayback park. The Grange will furnish the home-made ice cream and drinks. Each family is reminded to bring its own table service. Birthday dinners have been in order with the Dwain and Marvin Cross families this past week. On July 17, Mar vin Cross was honored with a dinner at the home of his son and daughter-in-law1 and on July 23, Mr. t.id Mrs. Mar vin Cross honored their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dwain Cross, with a birthday dinner. The Illinois Valley Garden club was to hold its annual picnic at Elk Creek camp to day. The Russell Dorans were visiting with the Oliver Boyds at their new ranch in Butte Falls early this week. Mrs. E. J. Wilbur attended HEU camp at Camp Chinqua pin Sunday through Thurs day. The Home Economics divi sion of the Illinois Valley Grange heard reports on work progress in the rehabilitation of Waldo cemetery project this week. Members attending the Po mona Grange picnic in Grants Pass last Sunday gave a re port on the entertainment furnished by the Illinois Val ley Grange. Oliver Wilson with his new "Bert ' Doodle" dummy entertained with his ventriloquism. Out-of-town guests at ' the meeting were Mrs. Josie Cook, formerly of the Valley and now living in Washing ton, a niece of Mrs. Maude Holt Bringing 80 Orphans To States Portland (UPD Eighty Ko rean orphans were scheduled to arrive here tonight by char tered Korean National Air lines plane. The plane was expected about i p.m. (PST). Accompanying the orphans will be Creswell farmer Har ry Holt, who has brought hundreds of them to this country. His daughter, Mollie, also is on the plane. Armstrong, cur rent president, leaves on Sept. 1 to become President of the University of Nevada. George Rossman, chairman of the board of trustees, said that a committee of four would rule on all matters of policy where a decision has to be made. No relief from critical fire dangers was in sight and Bert Cole, state land commission er, said long-range foreeasts called for the worst fire weather conditions in modern Washington history.
