Body of Boy Found In National Park Yosemite, Calif. (UPD Na tional Park rangers said Sat urday they found the broken body of 16-year-old Leon Erd man on a ledge 1200 feet up the face of Yosemite Falls peak, where he had fallen while trying to scale the 3000 j foot granite mountain. Three rangers found the body of the San Lorenzo, Calif., boy late Friday. They strapped it into a litter and inched their way back down to the floor of Yosemite Valley. Young Erdman slipped and fell to his death 400 feet down the sheer face of the valley wall Thursday. His compan ion, Willard Duggan, 22, said he lost contact with Erdman and did not see him fall. Erdman was a member of the California Bible Confer ence on ! campout in the na tional park. New Orleans Gets Offers for Carpets New Orleans (UPD New Orleans may soon have enough red carpets to lead visiting dignitaries up Canal St. Since a United Press Inter national story reported the city's 40-foot welcome mat was worn thin by the feet of celebrities, offers have come for a new 30-foot carpet from a local rug company and a 50 foot carpet from a Pennsyl vania' firm. questioning of Goldfine. Chairman F. Edward Hebert (D-La.) of the Armed Services subcommittee, declined to comment directly on whether Adams would be invited to testify as he was previous to his appearance before the Harris subcommittee. But He bert said pointedly that "any body who can contribute any thing to the hearing is welcome." He said he has issued about a half dozen subpenas, includ ing some to government offi cials. He expects the closed hearings to last three days at the most and the subcommit tee "then- will decide whether to hold open ones." Order Closed Hearings Hebert ordered the closed hearings under house rules which require committees to hear evidence that may tend to defame or degrade in pri vate. Public hearings can then be held. The new alleged influence case involves the refunding of S4 1,284 last year by the De fense Department to the now defunct Raylaine Worsteds, Inc., of Manchester, N.H. Raylaine was fined $80,000 early in World War II for late delivery of olive drab cloth under a $653,000 con tract. Adams, former gov ernor of New Hampshire, al legedly , took an interest in getting action on the refund after company appeals had lain dormant for years. Roswell M. Austin, former member of the Armed Forces Board of Contract Appeals, raised in a memorandum the question whether Adams was guilty of "highly unethical" conduct in the case. The White House has said Adams merely forwarded to the Pentagon a few inquiries that he received about the matter. Harris subcommittee inves tigators accused Adams of trying to influence the Fed eral Trade Commission and Securities and Exchange Com mission by making inquiries about pending cases involving Goldfine.
