c 4A MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Oregon, Sunday, July 20, 1958 Reception To Be Given For Minister and Bride Central Point Dr. and Mrs. Norman Kendall Tully are making their home at 348 North Seventh street, Central Point, following their wed ding June 21 in Elliott Prairie at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Oathout. The bride is the former Esther Long of Salem. The newlywed couple will be honored at a reception to night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald E. Faber, 415 Hazel street. Central Point, at 7:30 o'clock. The Rev. Harold Roberts, minister of visitation at First Presbyterian church, Med ford, and former field assist ant in national missions in the Synod of Oregon, officiat ed at the 11:30 o'clock cere mony attended by 35 relatives and friends. The bride w$re a rose-beige peau de soie sheath dress fashioned with shawl collar, Her accessories were white and she carried a bouquet of white ordids. Mrs. Oathout gave her in marriage. Miss Masgaret Lapschres, Salen?, was maid of honor and Mrs. Russell Elmer, Hubbard, was bridesmatron. Miss Lap schres wore a rose-beige sheath dress while Mrs. Elmer wore light blue. Their cor- ) : . The newlyweds traveled to Victoria and Vancouver, Brit ish Columbia, Banff and Lake Louise, Alberta, on their wed rfin? trin. For her traveline attire the bride wore a navy blue two piece chemise dress with matching hat and white orchid corsage. The bride was employed as a teacher in McKinley school in Salem. Dr. Tully is pastor of First Presbyterian church, Central Point. 4 .. Smiths Return From Trip North Mr. and Mrs. Justin Smith have returned to their home in Medford after spending a month in Alaska. Two major events enlivened the Smith's visit the passing of the con gressional bill approving statehood for Alaska, and the ! recent earthquake. The Smiths spent consider able time with their son and daughter-in-law, First Lt. and Mrs. Justin Smith, Fairbanks. Lieutenant Smith is on duty at Eilson Air Force base near Fairbanks. Mrs. Smith is the former Kathleen G u i 1 e y, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Guiley, 605 Park street. Mr. and Mrs. Smith were in Fairbanks when the news of passage of the statehood bill was received, and witnessed the jubilant celebration. A large golden "49" star was lighted on the top of the largest building, business was suspended and residents in a gay holiday mood thronged the streets. The Smiths were particul arly interested in the special editions of newspapers pub lished and brought home cop ies of the Fairbanks Daily News Miner. Much material of historical interest had been prepared in advance, and the editions were large and color ful. Hundreds of copies were flown to Washington, D.C., they reported. The visitors found that many residents, however, were opposed to statehood and these are prepared to cam paign against the proposition until the special election plan ned for August. The travelers were in Ju neau at the time of the earth quake, and witnessed its ef fects, particularly on the glaicers and icebergs. Huge pieces of the glaciers broke off during the strong quake, and a number of tidal waves resulted, they report. The Smiths made the trip by plane. - 4 Club Picnic Medford Toastmistress club vill hold a picnic Monday, July 51, at the home of Mrs. Hrry Marshall, 1028 Win chester avenue, at 6:30 p.m. Minister And Bride In Nevada The Rev. and Mrs. Van Cummings are making their home in Elko, Nevada, where Mr. Cummings is pastor of the Assembly of God church. The couple were married in Placerville, Calif, at the As sembly of God church with the Rev. Lowell Prinzing of ficiating at the eight o'clock evening ceremony. The bride is the former Marjorie Helman, daughter of Mrs. Alice Helman, 420 Pearl street, Medford. Mr. Cum mings is a . son of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Cummings, Kla math Falls. Approximately 75 relatives and friends at tended the May 30 wedding. The bride wore a gown of white lace over satin : with chapel train. Her veil was fingertip length and she car ried a white orchid on a white Bible. Tom Helman, Medford, gave his sister in marriage. Honor attendant was Mrs. Alfred Lee Saunders, Med ford, sister of the bride. She wore a ballerina length frock of a medium green net over taffeta and carried pale pink carnations. Bridesmaids were Miss Wanda Prinzing, Placer ville, and Miss Lorene Hall, Santa Cruz, Calif. Their frocks were pale green net and they carried pink carnations. Candlelighters were Robin and Barbara Conley, Placer ville, and flower girls were Debby and Becky Saunders, twin nieces of the bride. Their dresses were medium green taffeta and they carried bas kets of pink rose petals. John ny Cummings was ring bearer. The Rev. Truvon Rodgers served as best man while the Rev. Paul Miller, Sacramento, and the Rev. Robert Small wood, Camino, Calif., seated the guests. Baskets of white gladiolus decorated the church for the ceremony and. Miss Jeannete Kienel was soloist. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Helman wore a navy blue dress with white acces sories.' Mrs. Cummings chose a light blue lace dress with white accessories. Their cor sages were white carnations. Following the ceremony a reception was held on the lawn of the parsonage. The newlywed couple trav eled to Nevada following the wedding. For her traveling at tire the bride chose a navy blue sheath dress with white accessories and a white orchid corsage. The bride attended Oregon State college and Bethany Bible college, Santa Cruz, Calif. The bridegroom also ?t tended Bethany Bible college. . The Rev. John O. Reynolds officiated at the double ring ceremony, attended by 50 rel atives and friends. The event was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Norris, 103 Lozier lane. Bas kets of pastel colored gladio lus and white stock and green ferns decorated the area near the rose garden for the event. The bride wore a princess style frock of white lace over satin fashioned with three quarter sleeves and scoop neckline that formed a vee in the back. Her veil was shoulder length and she car ried a white orchid on a white Bible. Her pearl necklace and earrings were a gift from the bridegroom. Mr. Morse gave his daughter in marriage. Mrs. David Herndon was her sister's only attendant. She wore a mint green sheath dress with white accessories and a corsage of white gladio lus. Donald Cranston served as best man for his brother. v Following the ceremony a reception was held. Mrs. Jer ry Elliott cut and served the wedding cake and Mrs. Myrna DeLorme presided at the punch bowl. Miss Nancy Nor ris assisted with the serving' Miss Susan Brill was in charge of the guest book. The couple are making their home at 837 West 12th street following their return from a trip to the coast. For her traveling attire the bride wore a two piece white and brown chemise dress with white accessories and the white orchid from her bridal bouquet. .The bride is a graduate of Medford High school and Rob ertson School of Business. She is employed as a stenographer for Southern Pacific com pany. Mr. Cranston attended Medford High school and is employed by M. C. Lininger and Sons. He plans to . enter Southern Oregon college this fall. Mrs. Dowson, Son Visit in Midwest Mrs. Dorothy Dowson and son, Stanley, 47 South Berke ley way, have returned home after a visit to the Mid-west states. They were accompa nied to Kansas City, Mo., by Mrs. Dowson's daughter, Mrs. Fred Van Bebber, who came to Medford earlier in the sum mer for the wedding of her cousin, Florence Stacey and Terry Eugene Mclntire, for which she was an attendant. After a stay in Kansas City, Mrs. Dowson and' Stanley vis ited in Illinois, where Mrs. Dowson formerly lived. En route east, they, had made a stop in Las Vegas,' and saw the Grand Canyon country in Arizona. ' 4 Engaged Cave Junction Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Breedlove, Kerby, have announced the engage ment of their daughter, Bon nie Ruth Brown, to David Knight, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Knight, West Side road. Wolford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wolford, West Valley View road. Miss Wil liams is a 1957 graduate of Ashland High school. Mr. Wol ford is a 1954 graduate of the same school and is employed at Lithia Lumber company. The wedding will be in Sep tember. - - - Tour of Gardens Set For Today Members of Natural Foods associates will take a tour of four vegetable gardens this afternoon starting at 2 O'clock at Earl Roger home, 847 Penn sylvania avenue. The group will continue to gardens of Miss Anna Streed, 36 North Peach street, Har lan Bosworth, 2425 East Main street, and Vern Shangle, Lit tle Switzerland trail on Roxy Ann. At the conclusion of the tour a discussion will be held on winter gardens.
