4A MAIL TRIBUNE, Medfor Oregon, Sunday, July 6, 1MB Central Point Clubs Hold Home Economics Pre-Fair Central Point The first Central Point 4-H Home Eco nomic club pre-fair was held June 25 at Crater High school cafetorium. Cooking and sewing dem onstrations were held during the afternoon followed by ex hibit judging. The 4-H mem bers judged foods and cloth ing articles as well. All items were made and donated for use by members of the vari ous clubs in the area. Ribbons were given for the first time in the home eco nomics division. Demonstration winners in cooking were Suzanne Mon sey and Suzanne Flynn, blue ribbon for team demonstra tion: Colleen Franek, blueC ribbon; Carol Foote, red rib bon; Kathleen Fredricks and Nancy Inman, red ribbon for team demorration, and Don na Debrick and Ruth Daniels, white ribbon for team demon stration'. Sewing demo nstration awards were won by Joyce Anderson and Carol Straus, blue ribbon for team; Gloria . Thompson, blue ribbon: Caro lyn Sidener and Patty McCue, blue ribbon for team; Vernola iHuckison, blue ribbon; Don na Thompson and Elaine Johnson, red ribbon for team; Karen Griggs, red ribbon; Kathy Collinsworth, red rib bon; Jerry Gardener, red rib bon; Gayle Griggs and Chris tine Moore, white ribbon for team. Results of the member judging contests were Judy Frink, first; Carolee Kuest, second; Kathy Thompson,, third; Jeanette N o u g i e r, fourth; Carol Straus, fifth, and Karen Griggs, sixth. AIL of the five sewing and eight cooking clubs in the Central Point area were rep resented by exhibtis and members at the pre-fair. Judges included Mrs. Les ter Gordon, flowers and knit ting; Mrs. Don Bradshaw, sewing (demonstrations; Miss Mary Pat Lucy and Miss Marilou Garner, cooking and sewing exhibits and cooking demonstrations. Mrs. Leonard Franek was chairman of the event. The Central Point livestock pre fair will be held July 26. , '-4 Q3PW Announce Picnic Monday The monthly meeting of Christian Business and Pro fessional Wome l for July, will be a picnic M :nday, July 7, at 6:30 pn., a: the south end of Hawthorne park. The meal will be potluck. Mrs. Eioise Winklebleck will lead group singing, and Miss Gloria Haggard will give ie evening devotional. Any interested woman in the community is invited to the picnic, and those who regularly attend the group's meetings ar asked to bring a friend with them. (Annie Worthington) Cassidy was selected Dowager Queen of Canyonville's Centennial celebration, to be held Au gust 9-10, during an old timer's picnic Sunday at the Canyonville County park. Mrs. Helen Couglar, the only other candidate, auto matically gets the title of ma tron of honor. A third nomi nee, Mrs. Emma DeWald, de clined the nomination because of ill health. Both the queen and the matrpn of honor will be honored at a dinner ' to precede the celebration Organizations and businesses still wishing to secure booth Annual Picnic Set By Degree of Honor Members of the Degree of Honor lodge, Past President's club and their families will hold the annual picnic at Hawthorne park Monday, July 7, at 6:30 p.m. A basket dinner will be served. Each member planning to attend should take bread and butter sandwiches as well as a covered dish, it ia stated. Mrs. Joy is the former Nora Lou Oakerman daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Na than Chatfield, Montague, Cal ifornia. Mr. Joy is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard C. Joy, 1665 Siskiyou boulevard, Ash land. , The Rev. Fred Plocher of ficiated at the three o'clock afternoon ceremony. Miss Margaret Ramsey played the traditional organ wedding mu sic and Miss Julie Joy, sister of the bridegroom, was solo ist. Pink and white gladiolus decorated the church for the event. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white lace and net gown styled with lace bodice and bouffant tier ed skirt of net and lace. Her fingertip length tulle veil fell from a circlet and she carried a bouquet of white stephan- otis encircling a white orchid. Miss Betty Stout. Grants Pass, was honor attendant and Miss Luella Oakerman, sister of the bride, was brides maid. They wore gowns of lace and net and carried pink carnations. Miss Stout was in pale green while Miss Oaker- man's dress was pale pink. Marvin Hamilton, Ashland, served as best man and Rob ert Burgess and Keith Wilson seated the guests. For her daughter's wed ding . Mrs. Chatfield wore a blue crepe and lace frock with white accessories. Mrs. Joy chose a beige lace dress with pink and white hat and white accessories, ineir corsages were of pink rosebuds. . Following the ceremony a reception was held at the church social rooms. The couple spent their hon eymoon at the coast. For her traveling attire the bride wore a blue suit with white acces sories and white orchid cor sage, i The bride is a graduate of Alturas, " Calif., High School and attended business school in Reno. Mr. Joy is a gradu ate of Ashland High School and is employed by the United States forest service there. Robert Hamilton In South, Dakota Robert Hamilton, son of Mr and Mrs. Moore Hamilton, 43 Rose avenue, is spending a month in South Dakota visit ing with his brother, Alex, and wife, and Mrs. Hamilton's father, Pierce McDowell. Young Hamilton went east by bus, traveling by way of Reno and Salt Lake City, and ex pressed the opinion that he "never saw so much of noth ing," in his life, and that where he went across, the Rockies were just a high desert. Rock and Gem Club to Meet1 Roxy Ann Gem and Min eral club will meet Wednes day, July 9, in Redman hall at 7:30 p.m. Members are re minded that birthstone for July is the ruby, and that members may bring any kind of specimens for- identifica tion. Reports of the recent rock show will be given. The show was said to have been highly successful, with persons at tending from Washington Idaho, Arizona and Cali fornia as well as many parts of Oregon.
