He spoke of the difference in which Oregon and Washing ton State Grange sessions were conducted, and also on compulsory car insurance. . Mrs. Charles Johnson, a del egate to Oregon State Grange, in giving her report, read the introductory peech, in which the first state grange meeting held in the year 1873 was compared to the current state grange meetings. The prob lems confronting granges in past years differed greatly from the problem confront ing granges of recent years. Mrs. Editn Poe, HEC chair man of district 1, told of the entries in the sewing and hooked rug contest. Those re e ceiving top awards were from district 1, which is composed of Jackson, Josephine, Doug las, Coos and Curry counties. She also said she was proud of the fact that district 1 had contributed the full amount of $200 to the Spence Memorial scholarship fund, and was the only district which had done so. Secretary LesbiaLattie read letters of thanks from Phoenix Festival Association for the cooperation tnd con tribution of Phoenix Grange and from James Scott, who re ceived ga 4 - H scholarship award, and is now at 4-H sum mer school. HEC Chairman Coral Schroeder announced a rum mage sale to be held Sept. 6 and asked that Grange mem bers keep that in mind and be working to have ready a good supply of good quality rum mage. Chaplain Flora Klarin re ported Mrs. Willis House is now at home following sur gery, A. J. Chapman ill at a hospital in Salem but is re turning home soon, and Mrs. Walter Germer ill at home. Mrs: Florence Hartley is much improved. The resignation, due to ill ness, of lecturer Maud House was accepted. Gertrude Lewin Publicity Chairman Budget Deficit Estimate Revised ' Washington (UPI) Top federal sources have revised their deficit estimates .for fiscal 1958 ending ' Monday with a new forecast that the government 0vill finish about $2,750,000,000 in the red. Estimates of the deficit for fiscal 1959 beginning July 1 were higher than administra tion predicti($fts of as recently as a month ago, according to a highly authoritative cam- pliauon raaue avaiwu- United Press International. The Eisenhower administra tion now anticipates a 1959 federal deficifeof between $10 and $12 billion and in all probability much nearer the higher figure. ' Last-minute corporation tax payments between now and Monday night change the deficit total for 1958.
