Mr. and Mrs. Barney Fin stad of Tacoma, Wash., have been visiting in the home of Mr? and Mrs. Bill Werts of Trail. Mrs. Rod Perry of Trail re turned from Rogue Valley hospital last Friday. She un derwent surgery earlier in the week. She is convalescing well at home. Perry's mother, Mrs". Nola Perry, of Sweet Home, and grandmother, Mrs. Arnold Willson, of Dayton, Ore., are visiting the Perrys. Mrs. Irwin Howe of Trail went to San Pablo, Calif., wheroehe visited her son-in-law d daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stacy. She brought her grandchildren, Lynda and Jimmy Stefccy, home with her for a visit. Mrs. Pearl Adair of Shady Cove accompanied Mrs. Hows find visited Mr. and Mrs. Larry Shea, former resi dent of Shftdy Cove, now liv ing in Mountain View, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Warner of Bremerton, Wash., visited Warner's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ash of Trail, when they were here recently. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Hale and family have returned from a trip to Canada. They stopped in Tacoma, Wash., to visit Mrs. Hale's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Cunningham, and in Wesbank, Rrit.ish Cnlumhia. to visit rHale's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Smith. Sheri Watson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Watson, of Shady Cove, has returned home from Portland where she visited her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ridenour of Hillsboro and saw the Rose Festival. Mrs. Miles Williams o f Shady Cove was hostess to her sewing group recently. Mem bers attending were Mrs. Wil lard Huffman, Prospect, and Mesdames Ed Strother, Verne Wilson, William Schulz, Wil liam Andrews, Dick Bartuss of Shady Cove. Mrs. Ted. Con way was a guest. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ka newske of Oakland, Calif., are house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Olson. Kanewske is a retired baker and he worked with Gus Olson in the bakery business at one time. Mr. and Mrs. William An drews have moved from their home at Camp White to their cabin on the Rogue river for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bartuss of Shsdy Cove spent Sunday visiting Cmdr. and Mrs. Chafes Goebel at their cabin at Union Creek. Mr and Mrs. Walter Cad dell of Seattle, .formerly of Shady Cove, have been spend ing a few days in Shady Cove. The Grand Opening of the Country Playhouse, commun ity clubhouse located about eight miles up Elk Creek, has been set for June 28 with a dance to start at 9 o'clock fol lowed by a box social supper at midnight. There will be no admission charge for the dance but the box lunches will be auctioned off to the highest bidders Prizes will be given for the first and second best box lunces. Roy Porcher and his son, Tommy, of Elk Creek, Trail, killed a large rattlesnake which they discovered when trying to move some lengths of irrigation pipe. The snake, which weighed 5 pounds, measured 41 inches and had 12 rattles, and a button, was found between the pipes. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Clem ens of Grants Pass and Mrs. Hazel Ulrich of Prospect were visitors in the home of Mr, and Mrs. Floyd Kelley of Shady Cove recently. Mr. and Mrs. William Shep herd and son, Danny, of Shady Cove, have returned from a trip to California which in cluded visits with relatives in Morro Bay, King City and Napa. Allen Collingwood, a for mer Shady Cove resident who is now a patient in the Vet eran's hospital in Reno, was in the area for a few days on a business trip. Local students who gradu ated this year from the Eagle Point High school were Gloria Swanson, Joanne Coper, Lin da Jackel, Joann Dickenson, Velma Piele, Phyllis Briggs, Dick Schauble, Douglas Cham berlain, Carl Weisbrod, Stan ley Johnson, Eldon Elder and Loretta Rone. Three students from this class have been to gether in school since the first grade. They are Douglas Chamberlain, Velma Piele and Phyllis Briggs. Tom King of Shady Cove is on a vacation and spent Father's Day with his chil dren, Mr. and Mrs. Grey King, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob King in Ojai, Calif., and will visit his son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs. Harry King, in Hay- ward, Calif. Mrs. Herbert B a r t h of Shady Cove visited her hus band at Fort Ord during the open house weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Rog ers of St. Helena, Calif., spent a week vacationing at the Rogers' ranch with Eugene's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rogers. Bob Rogers has gone to St. Helena for a few days. -Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Cham berlain and sons, Doug and Dale, went to Montague, Calif, for the rodeo last weekend. Dale, who is a member of the junior sheriff's posse, won a belt buckle for competition in one event. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Davis have returned to Medford to live after living for awhile in Fairbanks, Alaska. Mrs. Davis is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hunt of Shady Cove. Mrs. Myrtle Jones of Los A a g e 1 e s has been visiting her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sattler, of Shady Cove. Also visiting was their son, Dale Sattler, of Los , Angeles. Both have re turned home with the Sattler's daughter, Ha, and her girl friend, Anna Gusland, accom panying them to Los Angeles. The Shady Cove-Trail Lions and Lady Lions held joint in stallation of officers at Rogue River Lodge Saturday eve ning. There were 43 persons in attendance. Mrs. G. W. Potucek of the Medford Crater Lion's auxil iary, was installing officer for the local auxiliary. Mrs. Earl A. Sheppard is the new presi dent. Other officers include Mrs. Wendell Stalker, vice president; Mrs. Athel Dudley, secretary; Mrs. Donald Harp er, treasurer; and Mrs. Frank Fagalde, Liontamer. " Perfect attendance pins were presented to nearly half of the auxiliary members fol lowing installation services. Esten Humphrey, member of the Medford Lion's club, and candidate for governor of district 36E, performed the installation for the local Lion's club. Wendell Stalker will serve as' president for the coming year. Hush Lawrence Lister Jr., Port land, and Constance Louise Clark, Medford. i Charles Ronald Driskell and Ger aldene Faye Glass, both of Medford. 22 Mumps Cases Reported Last Week Twenty-two cases of mumps were among the communi cable diseases reported to the Jackson county health depart ment for the week ending June 20, according to Dr. A. Erin Merkel, public health physician. The cases included 14 in Medford, four in Phoenix, and two each in Talent and Shady Cove. One case of influenza was reported in Phoenix, and one case of tuberculosis was re ported in Medford. Two Ger man measles cases were re ported in Ashland, two in Rogue River, one in Eagle Point and one in Jackson ville. There was one case of pneu monia reported in Ashland. Four persons had whooping cough in Medford, and three Medford residents had chick en pox. REASON THEORY Washington (UPI) Sen. J. William Fulbright (D-Ark.) says the theory now at the core of U.S. foreign policies is based on the "dubious as sumption" that both this coun try and Russia will always act on the basis of reason. "It breaks down serously only once, the war of the millen nium is upon us," he said. RESCUE IS SUCCESSFUL Manila (UPI) All 43 crew members of the 5,983 ton Japanese freighter Hig ashi, which ran aground in north Philippine waters Fri day night, were reported safe Saturday. The RCA office here said that the ship's crew members were transferred to the Japanese freighters San Diego and Kotaku, which rushed to the aid of the dis tressed ship upon receipt of an SOS. .
