o v Dominca Rejects U.S. Aid, Right To Operate Bases Ciudad Trujillo, D R. (UPI) The Dominican Congress, irked by American criticism, has voted to reject $600,000 worth of U.S. military aid and to revoke America's right to operate missile-tracking, and radio-navigation stations in the Republic. Both houses of the Legisla ture adopted a resolution urg ing these actions on the gov ernment Wednesday, about 24 hours after it had ordered 30 Dominicans attending' U.S. military schools to return home. The anti-American gesture was a reaction to recent criti cism inspired by reports of free spending by Lt. Gen. Ra fael Trujillo Jr., son of the strongman who has dominated Dominican politics for 28 years. Some U.S. congressmen, noting that the $600,000 an nual allowance from which young Trujillo bought sports cars and fur coats for such Hollywood beauties as Zsa Zsa Gabor and Kim Novak exact ly equalled the . sum ear marked as military aid for the Dominican Republic, had sug gested a review gf the pro gram. Dominican leaders were in censed in particular by the announcement that young Trujillo had flunked out of the U.S. Command and Gen eral Staff college. The resolution adopted by Congress charged that the equipment this country was to have received ounder the military-aid program would have been used ' "exclusively for U.S. interests and its collec tive security plans." It is evident that, if the Do minican Republic had not signed a military assistance agreement with the United States,, no U.S. congressman would have attacked the Do minican Republic in terms of fensive to the national dig nity . . . the resolution said. Wartime Death Testimony Given Los Angeles (UPI) Thou ands of murders in wartime Yugoslavia laid to Andrija Artukovic, 57, really were committed by Communists, ac cording to Tonka Mesic, 46, editor of a Catholic Croatian newspaper of Gary, Ind. Mesic testified Wednesday at the extradition hearing for Artukovic, accused by Yugo slavia of ordering the death of 200,000 Serbs and 9ews while serving as the interior "minister of Croatia, a puppet Kate set up by the Nazis. The editor produced a 160 page book, showing pictures of what he described as Com munist atrocities. Mesic claim ed he had proof of the slay ings. Artukovic, father of six now living in Seal Beach near Long Beach, Calif., has fought ex tradition to Yugoslavia for nearly seven years. He claims he will be killed if sent back. The hearing was interrupt ed Wednesday when witnesses refused to testify. They said they were afraid relatives still living in Yugoslavia would be harmed if they did. State Republicans Critical of Adams Portland (UPI) Oregon Republican leaders continued today to be critical of White House Aide Sherman Adams for his relations with Boston industrialist Bernard Gold fine. Robert T. Mautz, GOP na tional committeeman for Ore gon, and former Gov. Elmo Smith said Adams should re sign. Mautz said that he consid ered the so-called imprudence cf Adams "no different from the influence-peddling of the Truman administration." Smith said that "in the mind of the public Adams is gjoing to be a liability from now on . . ." Earlier, State Treasurer S& Unander said he would move that the GOP State Cen t r a 1 Committee censure Adams. Smith said he would not favor such a move. The ceosure should come from President Eisenhower, he said. i ' Mautz said he had no way of knowing how the Adams incident would affect the No vember election. But he said he believed "he should re linquish his position, whether it will affect the election or not."
